    Weird wifi issue

Hi. I got my neo x7 yesterday and after testing that everything was working fine with the stock rom i switched to Finless 1.8 ROM. Everything works fine except the wifi wich works really weird. When i have the neo x7 in my bedroom that has my pc and the cablemodem that provides wifi, the wifi in the neo x7 works flawless, when i move the neo x7 to my living room ( 10 meters away from the modem ), the neo x7 connects to the wifi with good signal, get the ip and everything but it doesn't have acces to internet. What is even more weird is that my Samgun galaxy S3 wifi works perfect in the livingroom in the exact same place that the neo x7 doesn't work. Other thing is that when theo neo x7 is on, if a put my SGS3 close to the neo x7, the SGS3 loses access to internet just like the neo x7. I switched back to the stock firmware ( v 008 ) and the problem is exactly the same. Any ideas?

Forgive me for my terrible english.

A mistake some Minix X7 owners make is remove the Antenna, it does impact performance a lot.

Also, since it is a rubber duck antenna, it means it's omni directional (meaning it spread horizontally equally circle like), positioning the antenna is crucial.

For best coverage, Antenna should point Upwards and the Minix X7 should be at least half a meter above the floor.

If none of them work, it is probably a software issue, just re-flash, you can do that with the kernel only, no need to do the whole package again.

Hey Pluto thanks for your answer. I'm using the X7 the way you described. Also i flashed the X7 two times ( both without any erros ) first with finless 1.8 them stock 008, do you think that flasing the kernel again would help ?

Also i took some pictures so you can see if anything is wrong with my setup. Link

Seems fine to me, the TV though will definitely impact it the performance a bit, but nothing over a 10% margin.

Reflash the kernel just in case, you wont lose your data .

It looks like my X7 doesn't like the Cisco DPC2420 wifi. I added a wireless router to my cablemodem and the x7 seems to be working fine in the same place that it wasn't working.

That doesnt look like a consumer product to me, but since it is not an Aironet it is not enterprise level either.

I have had a weird experience with Linksys as well, during the time they were a Cisco brand. I have a Linksys WRT120N, which is a draft 802.11n, if i enable both AES and TKIP, i cant get no mobile device to connect, and even a few laptops time to time. I turned to AES only and it worked flawlessly. Give it a try.

I wish we had multiple antennas so we could make use of Spatial Streaming and Beamforming, game changers in Wifi robustness.

EDIT: it seems it is a consumer product, i thought Cisco stopped that by selling Linksys to Belkin, it's strange that the leader of networking technologies fails on such things.

Mordy, i am curious to know if you have Mixed networks available (b/g/n)? Avoid .11b, and mixed g/n in Linksys products are known to be strange.

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking me. In the wireless setup of my Cisco cablemodem i have a parameter called 54g™ Network Mode with two options : Only11g and MaxCompatibility, the option that i was using with the neo x7 was MaxCompatibility and it didn't work. The wireless router that i added is set to Mode: 11bgn Mixed. This one works

the MaxCompatibility is probably the support for 802.11b, it is an obsolete WiFi tech and is mainly used to support old hardware with wifi cards.

Some things that i do not prefer is having 802.11b, 40mhz at 2.4ghz and AP isolation enabled.

Also, regarding the TKIP and AES, they are wireless security features, nearly all devices support them but some cisco devices freak out when they have both enabled. Also, WPA2 can trip the device as well, as for WHY remains a mystery to me.

I am a Telecom/Network Engineer, we take troubleshooting extremely serious, i have come to those conclusions from testing around and found similar responses on google. Cisco is a strange company, they acquired Linksys like 5 years ago and sold it again a year ago. I guess your device has Linksys guts except the DOCSIS adapter (Cable), but anyway, cisco are not really good in consumer products, or products near the consumer level. They are more oriented on Large/Enterprise networks.

btw, since you have a BGN router, notice that the N part seems to be draft, cause N is also backwards compatible with 802.11a which works at 5ghz, only the final version of the standards included both. This means, just as me, you have a "beta version of 802.11n", and it sucks big time. N uses a tech called MIMO to deliver what its best at, but it cant do that without at least two antennas.
