May I ask what type of application you have that requires a portrait display? I'm just curious.

Just edit build.prop. Change ro.rotation in 90 degree increments until you get what you need.

Please excuse the mild thread-hijacking, it is just that my query is quite similar...

I've a Droidbox X7, and a few games don't play well, I'm assuming because of a combo of the 1080p and/or the landscape orientation (only the top half of the screen is displayed, with large black bars either side. I can't find a way to scroll down to the rest of the content).

As the games are tower defence style, I think playing them 90° rotated might be OK, but I'd want to be able to rotate back to "normal" straight after I've finished playing the game. On my CM10 based Ace2 phone, I have the option to manually rotate (Settings, Display, Rotation). Is this something I could enable easily with a build.prop modification?

            TIA

I got the impression from "Just edit build.prop. Change ro.rotation in 90 degree increments until you get what you need. " that this would be a permanent rotation at bootup, not that it would enable the rotation menu?

This should do the trick (Rotation Lock Adaptive)

Thanks blinkone. Since my last message I noticed a module for the Xposed framework which may do the trick, but I'll try out the app you linked to as well.
