kitkat ROMs flourishing here and there...

    Hi all,
    according to Galland here http://hwswbits.blogspot.fr/2014/01/...ix-neo-x7.html
    seems that :
    Regarding Android 4.4 KitKat

Yesterday Minix issued a brief message regarding the recently announced, supposed, Android 4.4 support on some RK3188 devices from other vendors [that do not release their kernel sources].

Since I have been myself, along with other well known developers in the RK Linux community, doing work on upgrading the RK kernel to newer versions (3.0.36+ is tremendously outdated), I can confirm Minix' point of view, that the supposed 4.4 support by those other vendors is indeed FAKE.
The leaked 4.4-supporting kernel is the same old 3.0.36+ kernel with just some drivers in different structures/places and the bare minimum to trick Android 4.4 into believing it is running a newer kernel.
Naturally this is a recipe for bad outcomes, instability and developer support dispersion.
It kinda feels like those MicroSD cards that are labelled 8 GB but are internally just 4 GB...
So, I really look forward to the official release of a real Android 4.4 and its kernel sources. Until then I think we are better off with a nice theme in our current and more stable Android Jelly Bean.

I tend to share the same opinion seeing how so "unofficially" those Pipo 4.4.2 chinese roms appear here and there without really beeing officialized by the manufacturer...

Any other opinion on that ?

this seems not true on m6pro.
The system is different from JB and i think it's a true beta of Kitkat.

..maybe, but without GPS support ! that seems very odd and to me not very serious if coming from PIPO; and do not even think of source codes publication to back their claim !

That is the reason why it is still beta and NOT officially released: they left it out for their interests: in such a way WE are their beta testers! NOT PAID! of course...

            Trust me...its official. Enough said.

The same thing has happened with every Android version. You go from a stable environment....back into the unknown.

GPS doesn't work, simply because they haven't figured it out yet. No need to look further into it. We just wait for it...and be thankful for what we have.

I agree, this can be called a "preview" of what we will se in the complete ROM.

I have no M6P so, I wait nothing from any ROM built for that tablet for now.
I'm glad M6P owners are thankful.

I'd check in details any eventual official KK rom for my M7P before I decide to jump.

His statement is not correct. Rockchip has released the sdk for supporting kitkat for tablets and phones. Pipo isn't just using a skin on top of jelly bean. It is possible to backport certain features from newer kernels. For reference the kitkat nexus 10 and 7 2012 are still on a 3.1 kernel. The only time google forced an update for the framework together with the kernel was with android ICS(4.0) to kernel 3.0. But even then there was some hardware running on kernel 2.6 with backported security features etc.
