RKM mk802 IIIs B - October 2013 (Wifi AP6210) Keeps crashing with every rom

Hi, I just bought a mk802 IIIs with bluetooth, it's a version from October 2013 with AP6210 Wifi chip. The dongle just keeps crashing, with the default rom, or any other I've tried since. At best I can use the dongle for some minutes before it freezes (black screen, or any other color) with some roms.

I tried the original rom from rikomagic (RKM S8B_131107), the w2comp one, and various other ones, but with no success ...

Could it be a hardware problem, or is it just that no rom is fully compatible and stable with this version of the dongle ? Or maybe a fake one (but how to be sure ?) ...

Thanks a lot for your help ...

The number one recommendation for these cases are to replace the power supply that the device comes with with a good quality one... The one's that come with the devices are of very low quality, seldom output the amperage they show they are rated for and are just basically... junk.

When I ordered my quad core... I got a 3a unit from Geekbuying http://www.geekbuying.com/item/IZNC-...ox-320706.html

I can't say it is the best one since I have no way to test the output, but I can say that so far I've not had any issue. I can say don't spend just a couple of dollars on one and expect anything much from it... most units are over-hyped... so research it some first before choosing one.

I tried with the power supply of a Nexus 7 2012 (2A) , Nexus 4 (1.2A), Nexus 7 2013 (1.35A), and a no name one that I got with a MK908 dongle (2A). None of these made my MK802 IIIs run without freezing... So it seems it's not related to a power supply problem ... But I must admit I didn't tried all power supplies with all roms ...

If I remember well, the default rom installed on the dongle was freezing too with various power supplies I tried before to wipe it.

So I would think it's not a power supply related problem, but thanks for the tip

I'm not arguing the point... but the power supply that comes with the Android Bionic ( Motorola ) was tested along side many other common ones... While the output was close to the rated amperage, it's power output was very noisy which is something computers don't care for. I wish I could recall where I found a link to those tests but the point was that many of the PSU's that come with our devices aren't of good quality with only few exceptions...

Investing in a good PSU is always going to be a good investment.. Even if it doesn't resolve the issue you are having and you have to get a different device ( because your issue turns out to be an actual hardware issue ).... You can use the better PSU with whatever you'd replace yours with ( if that is actually needed of course ).

I guess I should mention a few other things now that my coffee is starting to kick in.... If you are over-clocking or the device is just getting hot for other reasons... this could also cause it to freeze, reboot and other things as well. Unstable software ( such as the alpha XBMC Gotham builds ) can also play a role so you want to see if the issues show up only while using one software or if it seems to be random with most everything you are running. So while testing... don't overclock for now and also try to exclude software as a possible cause as well.

If it seems to be heat related... a small fan may help but be aware that some motors can create interference that can affect WiFi and BT connections... so don't place them too close. Most fans made for computers won't cause the issue but bigger ones can certainly cause a problem if you aren't careful.

Thanks for your help. It should not be a heating problem as it can freeze just after booting and the dongle doesn't seem to be very hot. The roms that I tested are not overclocked as far as I know so it's not the problem either... I'll try to find a good PSU but I'm not very convinced that it's the problem in my case.
