moving db library from pc to minix?

    Hi,

If i have all my videos on an external hd, and I set up xbmc on my pc to view them nicely in the xbmc library. Then is it possible to export the library db from my pc to my minix, plug in the external hd and view everything just the same?

    Thanks.

    XBMC lib move

    Hi,

in your XBMX on the PC install "XBMC Backup" (to be found under "Program Add-Ons".
Set it up (specify where Backups should be located on your PC).
    Make a Backup.
    Copy that on SD card.
In your XBMC on the Minix also install "XBMC Backup".
Set it up to search Backups on the SD card.
    Start it and make "Restore"

    Fini

EDIT: Sorry saw that you are NOT using a NAS.
Under "Settings - Video - Database" (I hope that is the correct naming as I use German language) select "Export Database"
THIS exported Database has to be edited with i.e. Sqlight to point to your USB port
    from the Minix.

Hi! - Thanks for your response. But it looks like you described two methods - First using "XBMC Backup" and the Second editing the exported Database.

I'm a bit confused - Do I do both? Or just the second method?

      Thanks.

        Hi,

if you don't have NAS use ONLY the second.

Okay, So there a LOT of paths to change - So I assume I have to do a search and replace?

My PC writes the path as -> E:\
Minix writes the path as -> /mnt/usb_storage/USB_DISK0/WD MOVIE PLAYER/

So I can easily search and replace the start of the path.... But what about the end of the path?

            Before -> E:\Videos\Movies\StarTrek\
            After -> /mnt/usb_storage/USB_DISK0/WD MOVIE PLAYER/Videos\Movies\TheMatrix\

Do I now have to do a search for all the "\" and change them to "/" ?

Will that mess up any other part of the xml database?

            Thanks

              Hi,

              yes, search and replace.

Regarding "\" or "/" you have to try (I don't know as I use a NAS and there the path remains
              the same).

                Hey! It's worked! *I think*

I did the the search and replace as well as the "/" to "\".

Then I imported the file to my X7.

But it was taking soooooooooooooo long that I finally quit the process.

Nonetheless, it looks like most the Library did get transfered. Not everything was perfect, but maybe that was because I didn't let it finish. When I have more time I'll let it import all night and see what happens. But so far it looks promising.

                Thanks!

                  Hi,

yes the import does take time depending on how many movies you have.

Let it run over night and you should have all of them
