Need help with RKRemoteControl and wifi PLC's

    Hi everybody.

I have a MK808B with Finless ROM 1.6 upstairs. The router is in a room downstairs, surrounded by concrete walls and it only can be there. Of course, the wifi signal that arrives to the MK808B is bullshit.

For fixing this, I purchased these PLC'S. The extender is wifi (creates a wifi or clones an existing one, but it isn't a repeater) and sends the info by the electric grid to the other PLC.

After the installation, I've found one big issue. The RKRemoteControl app in my phone does not find the MK. Sometimes, if I restart the MK while the RKRemote app is running they meet each other and everything runs great, but this happens occasionally.

I don't understand why it happens. If it works once, it should work all the times. Does anyone know why it happens and can help me???

The RKRemote is very important for me. I had an accident and have big mobility issues, can handle the MK with the phone was the reason I bought it.

For more info, my router is an Asus RT-N66U.

    Thnxs a lot.

    Regards.

Update to a newer rom, one of the Minix firmwares which have the latest rkremote app installed.

You will need to download the latest rkremote app for the phone you want to use as a remote, but the latest version has many improvements and will fix this issue. If you use the v1 app with the newer version it will give you an instant reboot.

I don't believe it's possible to install v2 of the rkremote on any finless rom.
    Currently Using:
2 x Nvidia Shield TV | MiniMX III
    Retired Devices:
    MiniMX III-II | Mk808b Pro | Mk808b Plus | Raspberry Pi 1 + 2 | UBOX R89 | MK808 | MK808b | CS008 | X1 4K (rk3288_809) | CYX_809III | Ouya | CX-919 | S82 Plus | Tronstmart R68

      Thank you very much.

Minix ROM for the MK808B... This one for example?? It was made in august. There is another one from may. I think I'd prefer this second one because of the installation way. Will the RKRemote app work with this ROM?? And, what about Finless ROMs??? Would they fix my issues??

      Thnx again.

      Regards.

ididmytime - first of all thanks for all your helpful posts here.

Just want to ask one thing about the newer rkremote - does it fix the general issue of not being able to use it over wired ethernet too? i've hesitated changing from Finless 1.7c ( mk808 ) because it works pretty well ... but this is one huge missing feature that i would like to have. ( i don't use wifi because its so weak... )

Yes, you will be able to use the rkremote over ethernet on v2.

I don't think v2 of the app looks as nice, but it will get an instant IP over ethernet which doesn't happen on V1.

cool thanks. mind if i ask what's your current setup? i know you've tried most of these roms. i really dont want to spend the time reflashing .. if my 1.7c with the Feb 19th XBMC works about as well as any of the other options. I would love to get 5.1 audio, but that seems hit or miss... rkremote would be nice. otherwise, i just need to play and stream at 720, which isn't really asking that much. ( obviously, i like all the "normal" benefits of the custom roms - root access, startup scripts etc )

I would continue to use a heavily modified finless 1.7 if rkremote was possible over ethernet, I had to switch to one of the Russian Minix firmwares which have been posted. However be prepared to remove lots of junk apps. It might be worth trying one of Lewys roms, he changed lots of the icons for things like the mouse cursor which I think looks worse, but does have the V2 of rkremote and less garbage to scrub.

As for XBMC, the 19th of Feb build is fine, you can use one of the newer custom builds like the Ouya/Minix/Flumpster releases but if it's working fine you might as well wait until Gotham becomes stable and go official. I personally use the unofficial Ouya frodo build, but performance isn't much improved over the test version. The 5.1 audio I don't use, however it does appear really sketchy as to how that's working so probably worth ruling that out unless you plan to do lots of testing.

ididmytime -- you must have tried this, but even with the newer roms i found rkremote didn't work unless:

                1) you install ehomemediacenter
                2) create a share
                3) set to start share on be default

if you do that, then the rkremote app seems to find the box

Now ... i moved off Finless 1.7c ... so i could be making up BS ... but i know that everynow and then i had the rkremote working on that ROM, I just never realized what was the key to it working. ( ehomemedia having its share service running )

anyway ... if you stick with the 4.1 ROM, give it a try.

                  Hi!!
I have installed RkRemoteControl on my phone and i connect to mk908 without problems when i am on work place.
but when i go home and try to connect the RkRemoteControl cannot find the server.
that must be a router issue becose i have the same phone and the same m908. the only difference is the router.
anyone knows where to look inside the router to fix that?
                  thanks
