How do I extract PMID701i ST .img file?

I would like to try my hand at modifying the stock ROM. But I have not even been about to extract the separate filesystems from the .img file. How does one go about doing this?

there are many links floating around here, but the short answer is that you use unimg.exe to extract the original livesuite flashable img file. there are a bunch of tools that unimg uses durring the process and the system, root, recovery, and uImage files. to then make the images mountable you need to run a script called simg2img. there is also script2fex and script to work with the script.bin configuration file, though some new tools for this were just published in the last few days, just hadnt tried them yet.
some things to look at are the a10kitchen and snowbreezevmethods of dealing with extracting and building the livesuite flashable images.

thanks for the reply. I recently picked up a10Kitchen and the ROM and kernel sources from another post here. I hope to start tinkering on this later in the week.
