HDMI disconnect at random every 5-15 minutes

Hi, first time poster, and I have a problem with my fairly new Neo x7.

I successfully flashed the device with Finless 1.8 with kernel1080_cpu1704h_gpu798h_ddr667.
Everything went well and I am very happy with the TV box.

However, I am facing a problem I never experienced in TV sticks before (I also have a RK802IV stock ROM).
Randomly every 5-15 minutes the TV lose contact with the X7 for maybe a second. I have a blank screen until the signal is back.
I kind of flashed it just after maybe 2 days after receiving it from Geekbuying, but I don't recall this problem occuring when on stock ROM. I have tried with 4 different HDMI cables with all of the 4 HDMI input ports on my TV. My Sharp TV doesn't have this problem with any of my other devices, the RK802IV included.

My suspicion is that either I have a X7 with a glitchy HDMI port, or that it is somewhat unstable with the OC kernel.

Am I the only one who had this problem? Any suggestion for further step in my trouble shooting?

Try this goto settings/developer options and check stay awake

I tried activating stay awake in dev options, but unfortunately it didn't help.

Btw, tv is running 1080p 60hz. I tried as low as 720p 50hz, but no improvement.

Take the box apart and check if you have a 3188T processor!

This is getting more common and so far it is conformed anyone with this issue has a 3188T processor.

Please look! It will help solve this flicker issue.

          Hi Bob,

OK, I will try to check tonight when I'm home after work and report here.

What is the difference between 3188 and the T version?
Has there been any progress in testing with different kernels in regards to the two different chips?

            hdmi random off/on

            Hi,
I have the same problem...... just bought a new tv with hdmi especially to use with minix ;-)
Understand what Bob says but ok, once we've opened the box and identified the chip as 3188t what can we do then?

I read a bit about this 3188T on Freaktab and well... it is a very new issue and I can't be 100% sure that the 3188T IS the cause of the screen flickering. Apparently MINIX themselves say they only ship Neo X7 machines with RK3188 and not the 3188T.

My best guess is to flash back the kernel to run at stock frequencies until a solution has been found how to go about overclocking.

              Do you agree Bob?

I read that user driveX successfully flashed his RK3188T to run at 1.8 Ghz, but not sure which device he was using. This has been confirmed by TVDroid.

Link to the thread is here:

Also some really good info on what is the difference between the 3188 and the 3188T.

I will try to take my box apart, but I just saw the Neo X7 got heatsink, so I will try to swing by IT hypermart to pick up some thermal grease first. Not advisable to run the chip without it right?

Re: HDMI disconnect at random every 5-15 minutes

I have disassembled my Neo X7 and I have good and bad news. Good news is Minix seems to be true to their word and don't use 3188T's in their boxes. Mine is confirmed genuine 3188.

Bad news is that my screen blinking is not tied to the rising number of reports that has the 3188T.

Bob... what do you figure is next, trying some different kernels?

                    Hi,

My blank screen drop out seems to be fixed....

Originally was on 006c firmware, changed to 008 -problem solved, now on 009 -fingers crossed no problems with screen drop outs yet :-P

Hope you find a solution soon....

I'm on holiday for Chinese New Year celebration. I'll be back on 10th Feb to continue my search for flickerfree movie experiences. I have backed up all apps and settings so my first step will be flashing different kernels. Later will be testing other Roms.

HDMI signal should be tied to the Gpu or the Cpu?

I have tried flashing with a few different kernels.
From recommendations I decided to try more with the 1080p kernel at CPU 1700 GPU stock DDR 720.

Unfortunately I am still experiencing the screen flickering again.

Unless I can find any alternate ways to solve it I will try Quickshot v2 ROM instead. I hear from lots of X7 users they have a successful setup with this rom.

I would try to enable in settings/development/stay awake. If you can, please try other hdmi cable, what remote are you using? Is well known that some remotes like meleeF10 and tronsmart air mouse can cause problems too.
If you use a external hd, please connect it from a poweted usb.
That all I can say. I hope some of it can help you.

Get a better HDMI cable. The one that comes with the unit is cheap.

the Hdmi cable has nothing to do with blinking i tried some. my Minix x7 works with Minix and hardware guru FW but not custom FW maybe Hdmi chip or Gpu or Processor i think the manufacture change something
