HDMI disconnect at random every 5-15 minutes

Solved... but problem not identified
I tried with 4 different HDMI cables as I wrote in my first post. The one I'm using is a high quality one. Unfortunately it is not the source of the problems.
I am using a powered external WD My Book directly plugged in to the player. With or without the USB HDD connected I still experience problems.
I used to use the Mele F10 but I sold it since I was not very happy with it. Now I use my phone as a remote with RockRemote app. Occasionally I use the Minix original remote in XBMC. I have also tried plugging in a wired mouse, but in all cases I still get the HDMI disconnect.
I tried flashing different kernels from the archive Bob supplied with the Finless 1.8, but with all of them I still experienced screen flashing. The only thing I didn't try was to revert back to stock speed with the kernel.
In desperation I flashed Quickshot ROM v2 and that solved all my problems. Currently running stock speed but everything is working as intended. Will do a thorough CVM backup (once I read up how to do it). Then I will flash different kernels and try out if this indeed was my problem.
(Feels highly unlikely that I cannot OC my X7 considering Minix supposingly is using all high quality parts)
I will post my final test result once I'm done with the above.
Thanks to all who were helpful and posted suggestions on solutions.

No doubt the Minix line of equipment uses good quality components, there are few people that have any doubt about that. Minix has certainly provided a good solid foundation which is a very important part of it. Just remember that the CPU itself is still made by Rockchip and as such is going to differ from chip to chip on how much it may or may not OC just like what is experienced by all of the other devices out there that use the same chip.
From my own reading... you will get more performance gains with OC'ing the RAM and GPU more than you do the CPU itself. I always recommend to start with the stock settings, increase only what you need to as little as is needed in order to make everything work smoothly and leave it. OC'ing too much shortens the expected life as well as increases the chances of instability.
