J22 from stock ROM to CustomROM

I've bought a J22 stick from Aliexpress seller:
    Model: rk31sdk
    Android-version: 4.2.2
    Kernel:
    3.0.36+
    arron@develop-server#137
    Sat Oct 19 15:55:31 CST 2013
    Buildnumber:
    rk31sdk-user 4.2.2 JDQ39 user.arron.20131021.151002 test-keys
    Vendor software version:
    RK3188_R-BOX_ANDROID4.2.2-SDK_V1.0.0_130614

Stick was stock rooted. It just needed installing SuperSu.
Although there are many ROMS on Freaktab I do not know which will run on this stick.
Googled on buildnumber but nothing showed up.
    Please advice.

I have the exact same tv dongle you have and purchased it from Aliexpress.com. I am also wondering which ROM is safe to install and I'm also curious as to if we are able to install the 3.0.72+ kernel by omegamoon. The threads I've read about it haven't specifically mention our model, but have said the chip RK3188 so i'm hoping it's compatible.

    EDIT:
I cracked open the device and found it has an AP6210 wifi chip. I wasn't able to see what exact CPU chip model it has since there was some processor goop on top of it covering up the text. I wish I knew the exact model since it's tough to know if a custom rom is actually compatible with the device.

I also am having issues getting windows to recognize the device when plugged in with the OTG port or the regular USB port. I tried holding down the function button during boot up, but nothing. Windows doesn't list it in device manager or anywhere. it's like it isn't even connected.

ROM version is same is mine?
I find it rather strange that Googling the ROM or part of the version name has no result.

Next thing is to try making a backup of the stock ROM. CWM of TWRP on tablet or phone is not new for me but this stick is something different.

Please get us informed of your experiences!

unfortunately I can't do any testing until i figure out how to get my device to be recognized by windows. I will do some tinkering tonight when i get home from work to see if I can figure it out, but if I can't, then it pretty much renders the device useless as I bought it strictly for streaming videos from my plex server onto my TV. So far the stock ROM and kernel has any video it plays over the network, stutter and lag.

Streaming SD movies from an Windows Home Server (samba) is ok for me. 720P works too. I use ESfile explorer with MXplayer or Archos Video Player. XBMC runs but 720P runs smoother with the others.
          It's about 10m from TP-link router.

I have tried SD videos as well, but still it happens. It's like no matter what I do, it's the exact same result of stutter and lag. I tried streaming from my plex server. I tried playing from smb and upnp shares in xbmc. I tried using ehomemedia, and bubbleupnp with mx player. My J22 device is about 2 feet from my router so it's not a signal strength issue. I'm thinking the only way i'm going to be able to watch anything from my media server is if I get a custom rom installed.

I tried both actually, with the power supply and just hooked up to the USB port on my TV. There was no change in performance.
