    CX-919 vs CX-919ii vs CX-919S

Apologies if this has been asked & answered, but I searched & didn't find it.

Is there a table or description of the differences between these devices? Ideally something with the pros & cons, recommended/working ROMs & kernels, etc. I think this info would make an excellent sticky for this forum.

Reading through some of the threads I see that the cx-919ii is also known as J22, but I have no idea what this means or if this is a good thing or not. The specs (according to geekbuying.com description) appear to all be the same, so I don't get why some ROMs & kernels don't work on one or the other. Ultimately, I'm looking for a recommendation to buy.
    Thanks.

I too am interested in this. Looking into a new purchase, since the MK808b I bought off **** has not been at all successful!

I read through the entire "blacklisted devices" thread in the RK3188 devices forum yesterday and gleaned a little more information about the locked T-processors. It looks like any stick we buy now is going to come with an RK3188T cpu, but it's not clear to me whether that's such a bad thing. If it works fine, do I really need the ability to overclock it? But then, so many of them have blinking issues, so "works fine" isn't necessarily about the speed. And there's no clear "here, do this, then this" solution for them.

I think I'm going to keep waiting until it's obvious what to buy. Admittedly, it might be a long wait.

I am not certain but I think:

        CX-919 is rk3188 and Ap6330 wifi
CX-919-II is rk3188/ap6210 non-standard wifi (latest models may be rk3188t)
Cs919s is a tv box based on Allwinner A31s/RTL8723a

I am actually thinking about just getting an Ouya now. £97 you get a controller with it, and it looks a whole lot easier to make it work!

I don't think this is universally true. Geekbuying's description of the CX-919S is that it's got the same guts as a CX-919, just in a different case. Take that with a grain of salt, however, since we know that the manufacturers change components on a whim and the retailer may or may not be aware of the change. Blinkone's CX-919/AP6210 is yet another example of not knowing what you're buying until it arrives.

There is not quality assurance or quality control on most of these Chinese sweatshops. I have a friend who had some items manufacture there (basically re-branded with his company) and in the middle of production they swapped boards to a different version. It was cheap memory sticks he was getting done but the switch affected the product greatly. Some weren't even recognized by windows while the ones with the old boards were fine.

Geekbuying is the business of making money in a world of cheap Chinese electronics being mass produced with very low margin of profits. If they can have a manufacture that makes shoes make them CX-919x for $2 less; they start selling it as CX-919x...

True, but they also responded very quickly when it was pointed out that they've been selling sticks with a different CPU (RK3188 vs. RK3188T) and updated their product listings accordingly. I'm not convinced they're complicit in the manufacturers duplicity.

Nevertheless, it would still be nice to have a table/wiki that lists variants by cpu and/or wifi chip, including speed capabilities, with compatible kernels & some of the major ROMs. I'd work on it myself, but I really don't know enough about these things. I've only been reading here for a week or so.

My beef with these Android sticks is the discrepancy between builds of just a few months. You can have 5 of these things build by the same mfr from the same seller & 3 will not be able use the same rom.

Excellent question, and I haven't figured that out myself. AFAIK, the only reliable way to tell which cpu & wifi chip you've got is to crack open the case and peel up the heatsink.

There are a good dozen or more makes & models of sticks out there using either the RK3188 or RK3188T CPU (pretty much only RK3188T on shelves at this point) and either the AP6330 or AP6210 wifi module. This suggests (to my admittedly naive understanding) that there should only be 4 variations and that a kernel & rom for one cpu/wifi combination would work for all makes & models with that cpu/wifi combination. Speed (OCmax, if at all) & stability may vary a little bit, but should in theory be confined to a relatively small range. Neither of these assumptions appear to be the case however, so there is some other variable(s) that I don't yet know/understand. Quality of the power supply is a factor in stability, but nothing else.

In the "General TV Boxes" forum there is a quasi-FAQ (not organized or complete, thus beta IMO) and a link to a spreadsheet stored on someone's google drive with some hardware specs populated. Neither has been updated in some time though, so it probably won't get you fully up to speed. The only way to do that appears to be to roll the dice and buy something, potentially making a very bad decision and wasting your time, money, and sanity.

CX919 II same as GM282? does not seem to be same

Each seller/website have their own description of CX919 II & GM282.

I ordered a "CX919 II GM282" from Geekbuying from here.

After reading a bit on Amazon, I am now confused what the CPU would be: RK3188 or RK2188T?

The Amazon item GM282 here shows it as RK3188 1.6 GHz and this CX919 II here shows it as RK3188 with 1.8GHz.

So now it seems that CX919 II and GM282 are different products??

Anyone bought from Geekbuying can confirm?

                              Thanks!
