    newbie MK908ii questions

Just received the above from Geekbuyer.
    Forgive my new-ness...
Can I download xbmc straight onto it or does it need any "setting up" first.
Would it need to be rooted? If so , is there any links to how to do this?

Will probably a finless rom once i get the hang of it ;-)

    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the stock rom on the MK908II is rooted, but I flashed Finless 1.5a straight away so I didn't poke around the stock rom much. I'm running Lewys20041 'JustXBMC' build on my MK908II. It's pretty smooth but I haven't tested any 1080p content on it. I've read that a forked version of XBMC called SPMC (made originally for the Ouya) is supposed to be pretty good. There's also 'Beyond XBMC' which is getting good comments too. I think I'm going to give that one a try next.

You don't need to be rooted to run XBMC and you don't need to do any other setting up aside from the usual wifi etc.

What are the MK908II extension pads on the board for?

      Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone of you has an idea what the extension pads on the MK908II are for. I added a picture pointing out which ones I mean. The RTG pads are clearly the UART (RTG=Read Transmit Ground).

The others I have to guess. The top connector gives room for a ZIF socket. This socket is visible in one of the images on the Internet:

Camera and LCD sockets generally have more contacts than 8, so my best guess it's a touch interface.

The bottom solder pads could be anything. Two of them are ground (I checked), but the others could be SPI, I2C, GPIO, etc.

Please let me know what you think.

      Best, Bart
