    Minix, XBMC and Harmony Remote

Did anybody successfully got a Harmony IR Remote working within XBMC?

Minix is providing a basic profile in the Harmony Setup Tool and it is easy as well to learn and map the keys of the stock Minix remote.

What I cannot get to work is using the Harmony within XBMC. I tried several profiles like MCE keyboard or MCE remote but it seems that even in XBMC debug log a keypress is not detected at all.

I would love to be able to use Play / Stop / Subtitles etc functionality right from the Harmony remote. Any input would really be appreciated.

Look at this post about using the minix x5 harmony profile . http://minixforums.com/threads/how-l...x-neo-x7.3126/ I have done just the first part. I haven't gotten to trying the rest to see what else is mapable. I can at least use the stop and pause buttons. Menu and navigation buttons on harmony works when browsing through video lists on XMBC. Enough that you could only need the Harmony if you wanted to turn on the X7, run XMBC, navigate around, select a movie and start stop a movie. For changing subtitles I find I can go to the sound option while a movie is playing to do this without having to resort to using the RK remote app on my phone.

      Wow, great. Many many thanks.
I already was afraid that I have to spend some bucks on a FLIRC.

I have a Harmony One and setting it as the remote control for the x5 also works with xbmc, the firmware is the 008

It's nice to get to use our Harmony Remotes, but do you guys find the IR receiver on the X7 very weak and finicky? Or maybe it's just my X7 mini, but sitting in my living room sofa that is about 3m away from the X7 mini, I have to point the remote a certain way in order for it to register or get up and stand closer. edit: I should note I have the same problem with the Minix original remote as well.

I have no problem with my Harmony 785, Minix receives signal just fine.

Should "play" "stop" "pause" work out of the box. With Harmony set up as the X5?
Or do you still have to remap?

Mine is not working on those commands.

                D-pad is working fine.

I followed the instructions here: http://minixforums.com/threads/how-l...x-neo-x7.3126/

After this it works OOTB with Flumpsters Beyond XBMC

Turned out that ES File explorer confirmed that the file was correctly copied while it was not.

Root explorer was better to replace the file.
Now everything works fine and can remap the buttons.

                      X5 Files

Does anyone have the files that used to be available here:

The old Minix forum is now offline.

I'd like to try putting the X5 ir codes into the new X8 definitions.

Here you go. The rkxx-remotectl.kl goes to:

                        /usr/keylayout/rkxx-remotectl.kl

You will need root to copy it there iirc.

I've tried to use this and pause and play still don't seem to work. All I did was copy this modified file to /system/usr/keylayout/ . Where does the keyboard.xml go? I am using Minix xbmc so I tried to copy it to /Android/data/hk.minix.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/keymaps/ . There was no files in that directory before I copied keyboard.xml there but pause and play still does not work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

                            Try following locations:

                            /system/usr/keylayout/rkxx-remotectl.kl

for the kl file. Root is needed. I recommend Root Explorer. You have to use the "Mount R/W" function.

                            And for XBMC

                            /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/keymaps/keyboard.xml

whereas this location may vary depending on the version of XBMC you are using. Reboot your device after the changes.

That's precisely what I tried and it did not work for me. I will try again with Root Explorer.
