Yes of course, if you have the source code, cross compile it and build a kernel (perhaps in flash), which can boot it from the sd or usb-device

    Your nic-name is program?

PS: and last but not least, don't forget to develop the needing drivers...

Cheers for replying at all,you seem droid savvy,I on the other hand have aspergers and without laymans explinations cannot do much I haven't learned yet via reading as my memory is horrendous. But thought you might have the answer to this here goes: I got picuntu 4.5 installer for windows put picuntu on 12.04 ubuntu pre build I belIeve? But now have no ethernet or wifi any ideas,I may as well ask you as nobody else here seems interested in the subject matter.I sold my pc so want something I can use as one hence the route I have taken.I need a laymans terms guide to fix ethernet not concerned about wifi provided I have a useable linux pc.Can you possibly help as I am baffled looking at scripts and command lines I just don't comprehend.I stayed up 24hrs to get it on bu with no net access after all the work.If I get it I can do it but when I need to read how I can't remember an entire sentance let alone multiple paragraphs of tech savvy lingo all at once.I would be vrry greatfull if someone or your self can lay this to rest so I can get my self some rest after lol.I managed the r29 script pre startup but it seems none functional for me.I have the k-r42 kingnovel mini android pc (rk3188)

In this post you will find a kernel that supports rtl8188etv and rtl8188eu chipsets.

Use the rkflash tool 1.37 to replace the installed kernel image with the above kernel and wifi will work. Cant say about ethernet because i dont use it atm.

You can flash only the kernel by deselecting everything else in the Flash tool.
If you need more info search a bit in the forum there are hundreds of posts that explain how to flash a kernel image using this tool.

Thanks worked like an absolute charm, but now I need to use my 32gb sd as the main storage,I looked up linixiun boot loader but he says open a browser type su? Thougt I need terminal for that? Basicaly I can't get half of his commands they are poorly explained for none droid devs or savvy guys,Iam hoping you may be able to help as it's few and far between finding someons prepared to help.If I can t Liz my sd as main storage I'm stuck .Bassicaly the dev wrote a tutorial in google+ but it's again for someone with aspergers in the way i have it,simply impossible to fathom out,he mentions editing the vold.fstab which i had to have help with in this site before,he says open a browser to use su command? I though su was a terminal command not a browser search function? See what i mean? I'm lost in his translation,if you do manage to help afer completion and getting flash running over a fix, then i shall write a true laymans tutorial allowing others to point any mistakes out, then maybe people likemy self can understand from start to finish,Tried using sd as swap but fails on boot probably because not edited vold.fstab but i do want it as a full working linux sd not a swap drive.

If you need the system to be on your sd card, then maybe its better to install picuntu 4.4 (1) (2) (can boot linux from sd card and dualboot android from nand) instead of playing with the mount points of 4.5.
Installing 4.4 is a bit more difficult because u have to copy the filesystem to the sd card using a linux (or a virtual linux) machine via terminal commands (windows tools didn't work well for me). But there's not really yet an easy way to do these things without having some basic knowledge of these linux commands. Maybe in the near future but for now, u have to follow these unfriendly steps or search for a script that helps, if any out there.

"open a browser to use su command"
This looks like a typo. He's probably ment open a terminal to use "su" command. Or maybe a file browser that has emended terminal console, but not internet browser for sure.

Thanks for all the help your giving,i have manage to create the filesystem but then mounting it at boot is an idea i had,as in: what if there is a way to force the secondary filesystem to boot up as the primary filesystem,i mean is that even remotely possible? If it is any ideas on how one would achieve the mount? As in how do i edit the vold.fstab and where does it live(reside) within picuntu as i am unable to force a boot on that stick regardless of the sd's file structure,i have made a linux ext4 partition and added or should i say un-tar'd the picuntu 4.4 and made the sync of the filesystem and it appears sound and all there, and on boot up it is showing but i am wondering how to prioritise that created filesystem sd as the main storage in picuntu 4.5 because it's 32gb and internal storage is a meere 7/8gb there abouts,as it is surely possible to make it primary if it is visible it has to be the way picuntu utilizes the disk via it's mounting preferences that is at fault .If i can do this and i am unable to make a good edit to the vold.fstab,at that stage what would i have to upload here in this thread to have someone take a peek or attempt at an edit, possibly even manipulate it for me as apposed to me bricking and restoring the installation repeatedly as appears that that is what i have been doing trying to make it work,i must have tried 10 times now and i have got nowhere fast the only place i have been going is from working installation to broken non booting installation.

I think that means you can do it, but guessing you mean it's flippin hard work and takes the p@ss on the time it would take to create (compile it)?

I think he mean the source code of windows, something which is not available.

The only way to use windows (but not 7) is via QEMU or remote controled (eg.VNC) but in your case this will be totally insufficient.

Oh right thanks any way,i have just started a new thread,i need help soon after i compile a tutorial in laymans lol.Just in getting sd to main storage, and potentialy 1st making my ubuntu back up as a coplete restorable image possibly so that i can upload it and people can simply flash it with the correct kernel.I would appreciate any input, what i have done so far by accident but remeber the install process as i did it tonnes and tonnes of times :3.

                    So far

upgraded my picuntu installation to official ubuntu 13.10 saucy linux running flawlessly in kde mode,i think it is KDE?

I inadvertantly repaired the copy and paste functionality to the terminal application built into the installation.

attempted to backup locking up on usb 2.0 wakeup process of some kind? What i guess it pertains to is it can't tell a device inside or the main box to wake up but guessing it is a usb 2.0 device that messes it up hence the usb 2.0 wakeup error?

I'm wondering if you own one of the K-r42 boxes as you can relate if you wish to help a bit in making the tut simple and achieving the missing features like ubuntu software centre/backup/and ripping or should i say dumping the nand (making a .img file to reflash).

Any advice input or assistance when i get around to making a tutorial would forever be appreciated psychorat.

Yes i have cs918/k-r42 old rev with rk3188 (not the T model)
I played with picuntu 4.5 before but didn't use any custom or modified bootloader to boot from sd. I'll try that and i will help as much as i can.
Operations like system backup and others can be made with simple scripts in a menu driven gui which i can make something like this i did in the past but for other purpose here.

Ubuntu uses the Unity desktop environment (shell) by default unless you installed Kde or you're using kubuntu.

Thanks psychorat for offering help,i have opened a new thread with a tutrial here:http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ANDER-ON-K-R42 on how to setup the K-R42 with saucy linux, and i am loading into kde mode at 1st ever startup and after that initial selection it does it automatically on boot i assume as it goes directly to login then desktop.I'd love that script for backup if you'd be so kind,as and when you get the time, i'm really thankfull for that, don't know if it needs anything i have on my K-R42 to make it unique though?

Any way i hope you try it and get it working on your box if that's what you plan, and any mod jobs on the software side for this box would be excellent,it has opened up a whole new world of computing for me i'm more than in my element messing with sorry learning with linux :3 lol.
