How do I know if my cx919ii supports 1080p?

Kind of a newbe question, yet - her it is:

There are lots of threads on installing ROMs that add full-HD support (1080p) to a cx919ii devices so is there a reliable and easy way to find out if the cx919ii I am using does support 1080p (e.g. checking the settings, running an app etc.)?

Thanks in advance and apologies for the basic question,
    Snali

Use your monitor's information menu. It will tell you if your CX919ii is sending 720p or 1080p HDMI output. If you haven't loaded a 1080p kernel, it's a sure thing it's only outputting 720p.

While you are right about the kernel, the monitor info could still display 1080p because the hdmi output is upscaled. However, as long as there was no custom kernel flashed, you surely run a 720p kernel.

        Two issues here.

        1. HDMI output - you can change this on the display settings now. 1920x1080x60 is usually the max.
        2. Native desktop resolution - the vast majority of standard kernels have a standard desktop of 1280x720. This is not user alter able except for 'special' firmwares created by one of our ROM developers. Generally desktop resolution is compiled into the kernel module and so needs a special compilation or patching as perfected by this forum's owner, Finless.

          Thanks for the replies guys.

          Here is what I did:

          1. I connected the 919ii I have to the TV (Phillips) and after booting went to to the TV status panel to see the type of input. It stated 1080p
          2. Next I opened settings-->screem-->HDMI mode and changed the settings from the original 1920x1080p-50 to 1280x720p-50.
          3. Last I returned to check my TV status and it now stated 720p

So I guess I am either lucky or missing something (as it seems the signal is full HD out of the box).

Android and chipset build details are the following:

          Model: rk31sdk
          Android 4.2.2
          Kernel: 3.0.36+ arron@developer-server#137 (Oct 19 2013)
          Build #: rs31sdk-user 4.2.2 JDQ39 user.arron.20131021.151002 test-keys
          vendor software version: RK3188_R-BOX_ANDROID4.2.2-SDK_V1.0.0

could it be that it's 1080 OOB?

What you miss is that only the hdmi output is 1080p, the screen that is displayed is rendered in 720p and then upscaled to fit the screen.

Running a 720P kernel will make your device more responsive. Running a 1080P kernel is noticeable as ANY 3188 device will lag after a while. You are going to be really disappointed as full blown 1080P content being streamed on these devices don't work.

I disagree on the lag thing, regarding streaming full hd content you most likely are right, but one could still use usb hdd or other media to play from.

                  ahh, thank you FadeFx!

So I understand that even if I play an 1080p movie, the kernel is rendering it to its internal 720p (no matter if the player is using the GPU or the CPU) and then, according to the HDMI output settings, it is upscaled to 1080p (or whatever the HDMI settings are).

According to the discussions, my options with cx919ii is to either settle with 720p or flash it to a 1080p rom and get a flickering movie (even if the movie source is local USB). According to your experience - is this correct?

If so, is there any other android stick that has the right combination of chipset and rom that will be happy to play heavy 1080p movies (even the ones with bitrate of 8-12mbps), in true 1080p resolution?

My (limited) experience is that the 'kit kat' 1920x1200 kernel I compiled for devices worked well and that video was smooth. However, I've seen many differing opinions.

I'm afraid I only compiled a 1280x720 kernel for the CX919-II so you can't test the HD with wifi support. I did compile a generic AP6210 full HD kernel which you can try but the wifi wont work.

Alll the above are kitkat (android 4.4.2) kernels compiled from 'beta' source code.

Uhmm mkay, I guess I should've said "snappy" on my cx919 720 kernels are snappy where the 1080 kernels take a bit more between menu to app transitions.

Still i dont feel that difference on my mk908 however, benchmark results are a bit lower obviously, but i dont use it for gaming anyways
