WiFi problem with a T-R42 TV box

    Hi everybody,

Sorry fo my poor English and sorry to be a newbee in Android .

I got my RK3188 T-R42 TV box yesterday ; because of the serial numer it seems to be the v2.0 board.
Ethernet works fine but WiFi doesn't work anymore .
The bad new is that when I fired the box, WiFi worked fine for about 15 minutes and after a power off it didn't worked anymore .
The good new is that I can see my network, enter the good Wifi required parameters ( inclding the WPA2 key ) but can't access my network ( though I can access it with ethernet ).
The status is "Connected", the Signal strength is "Excellent", etc.
    So what is wrong ?

I read on another forum that it could be an antenna problem ; is it possible ? Or a hardware problem ?
Or could it be a fimware problem ?

Here is what I found in the parameters of the box :
    * build # : RK31 sdk-eng 4.2.2 JDQ39 en.linking.2013102.160936
    * vendor software version : RK3188_R-BOX_ANDROID4.2.2-SDK_V1.0.0_130514
So, which firmare do I have ?

    Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem and unfortunately I saw that many other people
have the same problem as it seems this is a hardware problem
until now I did not see there is a solution to this problem
I bought mine from geek buying and I'm going to return it back
I saw people complaining about the same problem already in september
So I do not understand why they continue to sell this device when he actually defective

I made some investigations and found that :
      * wifi works fine after a firmware dowload till a power shutdown ; after a power off, wifi doesn't work anymore
      * if I restart the system without shutting down the box power supply, wifi works fine .

On Sunday 16th of February, I sent an email to [email protected] but didn't got any answer for the moment .

really disappointing that I buy product and pay extra for something that should be better from the previous version and its not working If this is software problem they are supposed to solve it
But if this is a hardware problem I expect to receive the device back I dont want it anymore

Here is the answer I just received from the support :

            "hi Dear
good morning, thanks for your email ,do not worry, we are here to help you,
1st, could you go to setting, and check whether you have let the wifi on always, if you do not set it like this, each time when you restart the TVBox you need to connect the wifi again ,
2nd, reboot your router, and reset the TVBOX to factory, and let your TVBOX closer to router,
3rd,. if it is the same, could you like to install the firmware here http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php...-0-pcba-board/
take it easy,w e will keep in touch with you until the trouble is solved,
by the way, could you try with another HDMI cable, ?
            good day
            anna"

Your WiFi doesn't work ? Perhaps this is a solution to your problem ...

I think I found where the problem comes from : It seems to be a power supply problem !!!

So, to make your WiFi work, you should try this :
First, the only firmware that can work with WiFi on my T-R42 ( with blueetooth ) is a Wasser's one ; I just tried the v1.2.4 with a kernel "new". I never succeeded in using stock ( except the first time I fired up my box ) neither lewy's firmwares with WiFi.
Second, after wasser's firmware upgrade, don't disconnect the OTG cable between the box and the computer.
Third, let the computer powered on ( of off if computer's keeps power on USB plugs ). That means that you don't remove power coming from the computer.
Then, until these conditions remain, you can use WiFi .

So is my 5V 2A power adapter supplied with the box defective ( I measured 5.37V but couldn't measure if it really delivers 2A ) ?
Or is it a harware problem ?

What is curious is that WiFi just work with wasser's firmware ...

I will send the results of my investigations to the support.

I had exactly the same problem with my T-R42 and i just changed the Channel Bandwidth from 20/40 MHz to 20 MHz in my wireless settings from my router and it worked.
I hope it will work for you too.
