    Cloudproject PocketKey Rom?

    Hi,

I'm new here and I'm unsure if this is correct sub-forum to post in, but since I own a Minix X7 I hope I'm right here (if not, please move the thread).

I found the Cloudproject PocketKey Kitkat Rom at http://cloudproject.freeforums.org/k...ey-rc2-t3.html and I wonder whether it can be used on the Minix X7.

Judging from the rom and the specs it should also use the RK3188 platform.

I extracted the rom using the firmware tools from http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...Firmware-Tools . I noticed the bootloader is different (extracts as RK3188Loader(L)_V1.20) and I don't think I should use it on the Minix, since I might brick it, right?

Apart from that I noticed, that the parameter file only contains a userdata partition, but no user partition, so it seems it uses the new emulated internal SD-card feature introduced in Android Honeycomb. Kernel seems to be 3.0.36+.

I thought about keeping my current bootloader (2.08) and the kernel from wasser's Kitkat release and flashing the rest, but I'm unsure if that will brick my device.

Anyone willing to have a look into the rom and maybe modifying it for the Minix X7? Or at least hint me to what I have to modify to try this rom safely.

The ROM has to be made for the device. It is not like Windows where you can use one generic version for all and have everything function properly.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it won't work out of the box. It will probably be missing WLAN, BT, IR remote support and maybe sound output. I'm not really sure what depends on the kernel (which can be changed easily) and what depends on the used system image.

But cloudproject claims that rom updates are developed and tested by them, which will hopefully make this rom somewhat closer to the AOSP. As said the parameter file suggest that the new file system is supported, which is AFAIK necessary for multi-user support and will free Minix X7 users from having to choose how large the user and userdata partition should be.

I think it is at least worth to be looked at. There is a lot of cross-device development going on here and I don't think one should give up that fast.

The Cloudproject Pocketkey and Andromeda both seem to be using the RK3188 chipset.

andromeda box its just a rebranded x7mini, the first photos that they put on their web site still had the minix brand on it and a minix devel said on their forum that they were collaborating.

            Have you tried flashing it?
I to extracted the firmware and i think i will try to flash it on my T428.
Will change kernell to wasser and bootloader.
            Then flash.

              Good luck,
I tried keeping the bootloader and the kernel and got the following:

The screen goes to 1080p but stays black.

Same happens if you flash the entire image.

Is there any way to debug/log the boot progress? I tried downloading the kernel-panic partition but it was empty.

just curious where you found the firmware? i have been looking for a copy of it and have been unsuccessful. Also the bootloader for 4.4.2 is different from the one for 4.2.2 o that is most likely why it did'nt boot for you. Would have to use the one that is included, i have flashed generic rk3188 bootloaders before without any problem. (still do so at own risk) , but if i can find a copy thats what i am going to do, then go from there.

Seems like they deleted the post with the download link :-(. I think that the bootloader only needs to prepare the kernel for the boot sequence and thus I'm not sure if a newer bootloader is mandatory for kitkat.

I tried the 2.08 bootloader from wassers rom as well as the included one and I was unsuccessful.

                          HI All

                          HI all,
                          i'm newbie of this forum.
I want to share my opinion with Pocket Key of Cloudproject (just bought 1 week ago).
ROM is 4.4.2 is very very fast and stable respect the previous beta published on them forum.
Pocket Key is (from my point of view) the best dongle on the market at the moment and the ROM is very pure.
