    No USB bong

I have an MK808B (v 4.2.2) that I am trying to update the firmware with Finless 1.7 ROM. I've watched SomeCoolTech's Youtube video on how to. I have the correct rooted software but I am stuck when I plug the mini USB cable into the computer, it isn't recognized (no sound when USB inserted). I've tried several different USB cables but no success. The MK808B works fine with the USB mouse and keyboard and I have selected USB connect to computer in the setup menu. Any suggestions?

From Finless' README FIRST.TXT file. This is the only method that works for me.

Flash mode using the reset button:
If you do not ever see the flash tool say "Found RKAndroid MASS Storage USB"
Or reboot to flash mode does not work, then use this manual proceedure.
    1) Have the USB cable unplugged.
    2) Near the HDMI port are 2 holes in each corner. One is the blue LED hole.
The other in the corner is a reset button under the hole.
Use a paper clip or something to push the reset button in this hole.
I actually enlarged the hole so a paper clip would fit.
You will feel the button "click" when you are on it.
    3) Hold this button down and while holding it, plug the USB cable from the PC to the OTG port on the mk808B.
    4) YOu should here windows BONG it found a new device. The LED will not light!
    5) You are now in ROM flash mode. Read below for installing drivers.

when you successfully get device into flash mode you see as "Found RkAndroid Loader Rock USB"

Then you should be good to flash..

Son of a gun! I tried all suggestions and still nothing. I can clearly hear the clicking of the switch when I depress it. I hold the button down then plug in the cable from the rear USB of my PC to the OTG connection on the stick. Still no recognition on the PC but I get a screen on the MK808B where I can choose to upgrade from external storage or other options.

Could it have anything to do with the version installed is 4.2.2? Looking around, most of the rooting refers to 4.1.

If you are looking at ClockWorkMod recovery, you can flash from external SD Card. The only thing is, you'll need to find a rom that is in a CWM compatible .zip

There are CWM flashable zip files for Finless 1.7 here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...b-finless-roms

After flashing through CWM, on first boot you might get a message saying storage is corrupt --- click the prompt and it will give you the option to format the storage space. Once you format, it's all set.

A lot of what has been said... isn't directed at finding out why it isn't working but only covers what happens when things do go properly.

First and foremost... the OP never said which version of Windows they are working with... if it's Win8.1 it's almost impossible to get it to work properly since the drivers are not setup for it. If it's Win8... it is workable but with some difficulty. WinXP-Win7 things should go smoothly but then the drivers do need installed properly and if they aren't... no sound will happen after the first attempt.

If you are attempting it on a Win8 or Win8.1 computer... go to a WinXP-Win7 computer instead. A Win8 computer may be able to be forced to work... but it isn't something I'd suggest unless the user is an advanced user... and Win8.1 has been next to impossible with only a few "experts" having made that work.

So the first question that should have been asked if it wasn't given by the OP... What version of Windows are you trying to use? .... without that... you are just jerking around.

Next part... when the device is attached to the computer... it may not always "bong"... if the sound is muted nothing makes a noise, if the sound for the system notification is changed or corrupted it may be a different sound or no sound at all. So the first place that should be looked at ( when connected ) is the Device Manager... if it ( the driver ) is installed there will be a Rockchip device shown... if it isn't installed there will be a yellow sign on a device ( usually unknown ) with a "!" or "?" on it.

If no device is shown at all ( good bad or otherwise ) that indicates either a bad cable ( most common ) or a bad USB port either on the computer or on the device. Test the computer's USB port you are using by plugging in another USB device like a thumb drive. A cable that is bad or made for power only would also not show a device. Usually the cable that comes with a new device should work... so test with it first.

Another thing... do not use a USB 3 port on the computer... USB 2 is best but USB 1.1 should also work.

Going from 4.2 to 4.1 via CWM is a big no no, the partitions are different and won't work.

Keep it on 4.2, you can't use overclocked 4.1 kernels without losing wifi/bt so you might as well stay on 4.2 before you get in a situation you have to flash via PC for it to even work.

I was under the impression that this wouldn't be a problem unless it was the other way around after reading this post:

Not possible to upgrade to 4.2.2 from 4.1.1 using CWM.

CWM cannot repartition NAND. The new 4.2.2 kernel is larger and thus NAND must be repartitioned to fit.
Only way to do that is with the flash tool.
You might be right --- I haven't tested it myself, so maybe it wasn't such a good idea for me to suggest it. Everything rdsok mentioned is true. I followed the steps for the workaround to flash my MK808B in Win 8.1 and although it recognized the device, it never successfully flashed it. There's another thread where someone linked to an official Windows update to fix compatibility problems which sounds a bit more promising, but I wouldn't attempt this if you have access to a PC running an older version of Windows.

I have a similar problem with my Minix X7. When i turn on the box and open flashtool v1.37, it recognizes the box because it gives me "Found RKAndroid MASS Storage Usb" but as soon as i try to put the box in flash mode (holding reset button), it gives me "No Found RKAndroid rock usb"

                      Anybody can help?

You need to start with by providing information on everything... you didn't even list which version of Windows you are trying to do this in... something I just mentioned as something important... perhaps you should start by reading everything first... then provide some actual details of everything you are using and the exact steps you are taking...
