    Bad PiPo M6 Pro performance

    Hello everyone,

I own a Pipo M6 Pro 16 GB tablet (WiFi version). The original firmware was really laggy, so I decided to flash one of the custom ROMs. I currently have Riley's 1.6.1 with a 720MHz RAM kernel. I get around 18500 on Antutu, which is fine. Now the issues:

GUI performance is so-so. A bit laggy but passable. The biggest problem are application freezes. For example when I start an application (e.g. Skype, Chrome, Play Store ...) everything freezes for a period of time (can be as much as 20 seconds). If I try to interact with the application after some time I get the application is not responding screen with options to close or wait.
Cold starting applications also takes a bit of time, even for fairly simple ones.
This freeze is also noticeable in applications that do background loads. Their progress animation just stops.

Well, this is really annoying, and making the tablet barely usable for surfing or any kind of multitasking. I ran A1 SD benchmark and get around 5MB/s reading and writing speeds on the internal memory, that is really poor performance. Could this be the cause? Do 32GB models have faster memory?

Does anyone have any ideas how to make this tablet usable?

my internal flash is more than 200Mb/s (pipo M6pro 3G 16Gb).
Try the kitkat release (RileyRom 1.7).
This could improve performance a little bit.

      Wow.
What software do you use to test the flash speed?

I have M7pro, which is quite laggy too.
I have tried "SD card tester" and "A1 SD Bench" on the tablet,
and "CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 x64" on PC with tablet connected over USB.

on m7pro internal flash is /mnt/sdcard, and additional SD card, inserted into SD slot, is /mnt/external_sd

"SD card tester" gives 14.8 MB/s read and 5.8 MB/s write (on /mnt/sdcard path with 300MB test file).

"A1 SD Bench" gives 10.6 MB/s read and 6.3 MB/s write (on "SD card" location, "longer - more accurate" option selected, file size is about 600 MB).
"Internal memory" location gives insane number like 370 MB/s, but this number is meaningless because of small partition size: test file fits into cache at whole.

      "CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 x64" gives 10.4 MB/s sequental read and 6.3 MB/s write.
      Random Read 4KB (QD=32) and Random Write 4KB (QD=32) are around 0.005 MB/s

I used "android tuner free". There is a tab related to the internalSD read speed test.
Crystal diskmark does not give you reliable results because it tests the speed over USB and It is not the real access speed of the tablet itself.

I'll perform tests with different tools when and post results.

Btw, newer ROMs no longer have the option to change screen resolution (HD/Normal). Is there a way to still do it?

I remember that GUI was more responsive and surfing snappier on 1600x1200 resolution.

I agree; but results of two other applications, running on tablet, are very close to that of Crystal.

Just installed the "android tuner free". Yes, it shows up to 200 MB/s on my tablet too. But max test file size is 100 MB, looks like it fits entirely into the system cache.
With 200MB/s the tablet should be as fast as lightning, but it's obviously not... There are lot of freezes from 5 to 20 (!) seconds while starting average applications, and loading time of heavy games, like Real Racing 3, is up to 2 minutes
