I have a friend that streams TV...

I set up a Raspberry Pi for him but he constantly destroys it by switching off the power without shutting it down...

I am fed up with re-installing Raspbmc and configuring fusion for him...

Is there an android tv box that would be a better solution....?

I see tegra 4 tandroid tv boxes all over alibaba right now,if i were you i'd hang on to see them on **** and amazon and pick the best reviewed one within your budget, that's if they aren't ridiculously priced? As it's only a short time now before they hit those sites like **** and amazon i am guessing.The performance difference is phenomenal mate,i have a K-R42 and an ouya which is a tegra 3 soc chip, and they both perform like sh"t in comparrisons to a mad catz m.o.j.o (tegra 4) which i just got about 4 days ago,don't ask me why i have so many it's silly really,i have aquired them over a 1.3 year period so it's not like i blew it all in one go lol,although they are all good in terms of performance for android tv boxes regardless of what is in them chip wise.But i must say that the tegra 4 makes them all (K-R42 & OUYA) look like a b@tch in terms of performance comparrissons though, so the tegra 4 is the way forward and it's the current most powerfull available mobile processor,the graphics produced by the tegra 4 are out of this world,i am patiently awaiting the TK1 keplar soc another nvidia mobile processor which is the successor to the tegra 4,as demos for that are on youtube already,it appears to rival xbox one and ps4 graphics and is said to as well by the promoters and developers,that chip is set to change all mobile gaming forever,as it is coupled with a pc graphics chip modified for use on mobile devices,but that chip i can see hitting stupid money for the device it's in on at release.But if you want cheap and powerfull as in a high end rockchip soc (mobile processor with graphics built in) device, then the RK3288 chip is coming soon but unsure when it hits **** unless in recent days it has arrived? That chip is said to be a quad core cpu and a quad core graphics chip combined making it 8 cores total,it is the successor to the rk3188 soc that has a mali 400 gpu (it's a relatively powerfull mobile graphics card) which can be found on the k-r42 and other tv boxes as well as tablets to.Infact phones also have some of these rk3188 soc's as well now like some lenovo's.

Hope this gives you a bit of insight,but all in all it depends what you want from your tv box as to the chip type you go for,as is normally how you make choices for pc's and mobile phones as well as tv boxes these days,when you are a bit savvy.

For sure, it seems to be a beast,the quality and performance of Tegra, its reputation is well established.
But for me the quantity of gadget i can buy is very important, it's why i'm still in low cost, fortunately i'm always quickly resale my device and i'm never keep this cheap one for a long time.

For resale you appear to want to resell them unless i missundrstand,if that is the case it's somewhat in the end phases of being number 1 rockchip for the rk3188 soc,as it's successor as i said the RK3288 is due soon,unless your abroad as i am in the uk,if your in the states you may get one already? I am not 100% sure when they come out if they aren't already?

But they would be the best for resale,as people who are savvy normally go RK3188 any way hence why they sell in volume to the savvy guys based on that they nearly all probably have one of these as they have been out for absolutely ages now in terms of tech life spans,as it stands they could sit there forever loosing money because the RK3288 comes out at roughly the same as a price for an older generation RK3188 tv box very soon.If it were me selling them it would 100% have to be those kinds of tv box to be honest as the RK3188 is semi dated now in theory but in practice is a more than capable little beast of a chip type.

Or i'd buy a smaller number of RK3188 tv boxes and a much bigger number of RK3288 tv boxes if and when they arrive to market if not already here.Besides a large number of RK3188 tv box owners are probably more than likely anxiously awaiting the arrival of the RK3288 range of tv boxes/tablets and mobile phones.

ok a/bit in awww, i know of 4 tera boxes and all over and around the 250 mark no bench marks and xbmc wont run on ones released??? madcatz one few others actually that have no released code with any released software, but if you have links to specs and released code id love to see them as None exsist that i am aware of? i see tera a fast processor but release code and actually running applications that work are not in place as yet.

if you know of a working tera 4 box by all means post a link for it. (other then mad catz) as that box is dismal to say the least

I've had my mad catz M.O.J.O 4 days now and trust me it runs xbmc as far as i can tell as i have put it on it,but navix is down at present for weeks due to upgrades any way,so can't test it runs the vids.It worth looking at my review on some of the features although not tested it all yet to see what's good and what may need better work.Ihave gone into depth in parts to explain how to do some things missing and fix my tv not posting out 1080p with it,i am if you read it awaiting confirmation why this is from mad catz them selves but they don't work weekends.Take a look it won't hurt.I also rooted it madaco has a tutorial and it's easy to do,they allow rooting as it does not void warranty on it either.Infact mad catz tell you you should root it for a better experience any way.

Infact i am currently using as my main device for everything now,apposed to a pc any more,the site runs well,unlike on my k-r42 which can't seem to give a good conversion on my current 50" tv,i can actually edit and view freaktab properly,i also have the same problems on my 4.1 phone as well.The site is technically unuseable on that thing,even though it's a good cheap phone a haipai gt-i9377 dual core mtk 6577.

But yeah the mad catz is a very dear box indeed,as i assume by your research are all tegra 4 tv boxes,i see some advent tablets 7" ones at around 140 gbp but i wouldn't like one as i know pc hardware very very well i fix it,and advent are very often fussy and some models go down very quickly.That however does pertain to laptops and desktops but i am unaware of the tablets lasting or not,so they may be good but experience on the pc/laptop side tells me do not touch.Surely they will have some kind of 1080p hdmi output to,so technicaly they can be linked to a tv or monitor as if they are a tv box using micro usb adapter for mouse/keyboard and controller for games,or just some how connect it's usb output to a powered hub for more outputs unsure what they have though?

Just been looking on alibaba and many suppliers don't appear to know there own @rse from a tegra 3 chip,they are stating tegra 3 in the ad and you go into it and it then states allwinner A20 or something stupid,so i would watch it on there,i'd get clarification elsewhere on the product model name/number not what chip some of them very poorly attempt to lie is in it lol.It's either that or just like those annoying traders on **** and amazon that deliberately include multiple product names in an add title to bring it into more searches so it's always showing no matter what the buyer is looking up,that sort of thing should be vetted,you'll find that's why droves of customers don't even bother any more because they have to sift through 100 pages or filter 20 names before they can get to what they want to look at instead of b*llsh@t all the time lol.The funny thing is it puts customers off because they will think you don't understand what product your selling your self lmfao.

On the change of subject to a tegra 3 it's better than a RK3188 graphically and cpu wise so maybe although they are old you get more computing power at cheap prices as these boxes are pretty cheap,and hold out for when a K1 tegra comes out and drops to minimal costs,other than that current high end choice has to be the tegra 4 but cost as you stated is the primary down side to that,but maybe with a few or more months they significantly drop the prices,as if your saying there are many drawbacks these a.create a price drop and b.get people dedicated to creating a great os that actually pulls out all the stops,by that time any way price shouldn't be too much of a problem then in relation to value for a good fully fledged media centre and gaming system with kitkat to boot as will be the os of choice given some months i believe.As they are saying kitkat is for the tv players and tv box's

I placed a youtube link at the top of the page it's the demo for unreal engine on the K1 tegra chip for conversations sake,it's amazing the graphics are out of this world i can't wait to get hands on with one of those beasts

Video not xmbc show me a video of xmbc and I have one in fact stock not moving as issues with these gaming boxes as most will just grab a refurbished Xbox or PlayStation for 120 bucks as I stated this product not there yet nor will it every be without source release.

As a complete gaming media not as games still lacking, nice machine but when it beats my OC 67 dollar box ill listen. Madcatz are good at marketing they need to release the fixes they promised for this device as a lot of moaning going on about them.......

I hope amilogic comes.out soon as id love to my see competitors eat all the 3188T chipset boxes.

All xbox's and ps3 consoles do is packup and swallow electricity mate,they constantly constantly break down,that's coming from someone who has tinkered reflowing,and from a friend who reballs them and repairs them by reflow,his words they are [email protected] why would you contemplate that as apposed to something that does none of that.And the graphics may not be on par but they are catching up on the heels quickly,once the keplar chip comes out the k1 it will rinse them all mate,they will no longer be anything barr a tomy toy.I have a 360 guess what it does? F@ck all mate it's packed up lol.I also had a ps3 have a guess where that is? F@ck knows i left it out the front of the building for the scrap men lol because it also f@cked up lmfao.

My mad catz m.o.j.o is inbetween that of a ps2 and a xbox 360 gpu power,the thing only swallows a meger 0.26 up to 4.5v,Yes it's 179.95 gbp new, but the money it will save on my electricity bills could buy both a new ps3 12gb and 360 slim 4gb easily over 2 years or another m.o.j.o.+

Mate prices will drop they can't keep top line for much longer as they have been out a good while the m.o.j.o is 3 months+ old here in the uk and older in the usa.There are no comments from buyers or buyer reviews online that's a bad sign an impending sign of none profit and a definate indicator of price cuts,i just bought it because i didn't want another basic console,i wanted to trump the tegra 3 and heard the tegra 4 was awesome.It looked graphically leaps and bounds better so i bit the proverbial bullet and bought it.

Yes mad catz are getting a load of trouble from me and i assume it will knock on affect them,because others will then speak up as it's publicly affecting their rep as i have made sure on here and twitter that they do something to explain 1080p lack natively.

I also like the budget stuff my k-r42 my previously purchased unit is awesome,i overclocked it and cooling modded it to mad,i also had the console repair guy skin it in kevlar,it's in a thread i made on here,showing pictures,if i had to choose a rockchip it'd be my specific moded unit,unless there is a water cooled one which i would take over my shimmed and fan moded unit.

Max temp all the time running 24hrs a day for days on end and playing games all day is 50c idle is 38c to 40c,average temp playing and running apps is 48c and i have never seen a temp above 51c in android tuner when left more than 24hrs on.It's my old faithfull and it's like a sherman tank or a duracell bunny it goes on and on.

It does not lag or stutter but it did prior to modding in the gta 3 game,now it's amazingly quick and exceptionaly fluent in terms of point and click response times,just click miliseconds later it opens it.

My ouya is moded much to the same over the topness as well,it has a 1cm+ thick laptop copper cooling block modified to fit over the soc with 0.6mm shimms of copper for each ram chip,an internal 6cm fan and external 80cm fan on an old cover for a ML370 G4 HP server cpu heatsink copper cover plate, it fits the top perfectly and i glue gunned the 80mm fan to that as a fan stand bracket,i'm on youtube my name is ouyashimming take a look at it if you want to,i am no celebrity i am sh@t as a tv personality lol,but the sytem itself is good.

But the reasoning for a price drop is sound it's like their graphics cards it ages in months and it drops in value,the game shops sell minimal like ouya did,until they get kitkat and higher native in them from day 1 where it runs everything a ok then price will just lower and lower,give it 3 to 5 months max end i think you'll see it 129.95 gbp because of competition coming out soon.

As soon as those china clones arrive they would be very hard pressed to get 179.95 gbp for a mad catz m.o.j.o mate,and the price will diminish rapidly in chunks of reductions 30 gbp maybe even 50 gbp at a time.As ouya's are having that very issue as we speak about this.Here in the uk they go for 88 gbp down from 99.99 gbp in GAME uk stores.

Mate not me its the customers lol, if I got them to spend how I wanted ID be selling more then electronics!!! They are always the driving force.

Iam thinking once amilogic comes out you will be hard pressed to sell a 250 box :-)

The mk902 is an easy mod for cooling simply mount a case fan underside i am running 1080p and getting scored at 18600 with no fan and its running cool, mod box is at 1.8 and getting scores in 19000-20000, once i get the heat sinks on the ram chips then it will be oc more but it is stable now at 1.8 with just the case fan mounted underside. and playing beyond xbmc flawlessly so for 99 bucks all good
