    Best hardware for running XBMC?

I have been scouring these forums for a while now, but struggling to find current feedback on what the best choice of hardware is for running XBMC. I appreciate it's not so cut and dry, but it would be very helpful to have some kind of recommended list of hardware/boxes that offer good support for running XBMC.

    Please help with some feedback

Sumvision cyclone X2 android TV box imo. (aka my gica ATV1200)

Can be bought for £59 in the UK from 7dayshop.

Plays back all my downloaded content at 720/1080p and also streams perfectly from mashup,icefilms,navi-x and HD sports

    Install bob's custom rom http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...inless-ROM-1-4

and the latest PIVOs nightly (oct 5 2013) for XBMC

and you should be good to go.

I had a couple of rockchip 3066 devices for XBMC but they had too many issues streaming HD content. Once i started using the amlogic soc player the rockchip based devices have been resigned to the bottom draw.

Thanks, I had been looking at the RK3188 devices which seem quite popular, but again, no definitive feedback

As a general rule of thumb, RK3188 for gaming & web surfing

        Amlogic for video XBMC

I think the RK3188 devices have some major video stuttering issues, not sure if rockchip have fixed the issue or not but it was enough to put me off buying one.

            Luck of the draw???

I own several arm android sticks & have tested many including the RasPi & OdroidX (Odroidx being like a RaspberryPi with quad core). All of them had some type of playback issues. Whether very fine micro stutter to major drop frames on 720P & 1080P.

The major issue you will find is streamed content from XBMC (Icefilms/Mashup). You have to know & separate issues like wrong conversion from 23.976 to 24 where the movie seems laggy pretty much in any device you watch on. The RK3188 by far has major issues with video. Some here report butter-smooth or silky-smooth playback with various kernels & roms but I have yet to confirm this as of yet????

The other problem you will have once you decide to buy a particular stick of choice is that it won't act or respond just like their predecessors from just a few months behind. As a matter of fact, you won't be able to flash the same rom others report as "silky-smooth".... It will be rom by rom or kernel by kernel basis.

If I have to recommend one that will work out of the box without hiccups or OC kernels is the G-Box Midnight MX2. It won't play true 1080P (upscalled) but 720P is very smooth with no dropped frames or micro stutter.

So for the main use of XBMC witch chip do you recommend ??????
              Amlogic or Rockchip

Amlogic will do better at video but it will be less responsive. Rockchip will be a lot snappier & will do better at multitasking. Unfortunately, Rockchip requires lots of tweaking for video playing.

All plays smooth here. 5 different RK3188 devices 3 with different rom/kernel settings.

I don't see any stutter with my Neo x7 using Beyond XBMC either...

The Raspberry Pi plays 1080p the best! and its only £30
