MK808B+usb hub+HDD Toshiba WILL IT WORK?

    Greetings

I am planning on connecting this http://dx.com/p/4-port-usb-2-0-hub-b...1#.UwtrA87JU0g (in my mk808b's otg port)+ my Toshiba HDD 2.5" usb powered. The toshiba manuall says that it needs 900mA to work. Should i have prob with my 4port usb hub?

    Any thoughts appreciated..

(my other attached devices is a usb2ethernet adaptor and a gyro airmouse)

Most recommend a powered hub when using an external hard drive.

Absolutely no chance. You're close to 2amps there. My Mk808 won't power my USB hard drive without any additional USB devices plugged in, even using two USB ports.

You will need a decent self powered USB hub like a D-Link or Belkin. The one you posted will be useless as it's a power issue.
      Currently Using:
2 x Nvidia Shield TV | MiniMX III
      Retired Devices:
      MiniMX III-II | Mk808b Pro | Mk808b Plus | Raspberry Pi 1 + 2 | UBOX R89 | MK808 | MK808b | CS008 | X1 4K (rk3288_809) | CYX_809III | Ouya | CX-919 | S82 Plus | Tronstmart R68

Thanks guys. I think i will agree with you (i was thinking the same think, but i wanted to ask).

What i wanted to do is to use my mk808b as a SAMBA/UPNP media server (that's why i need to "plug" a hard drive). So i guess my only chance is to buy a 2,5/3,5" hdd enclosure (powered) to use it with my old internal hdd

An other thought/question: Can i use a high capacity usb flash drive like this http://www.****.com/itm/SANDISK-CRUZ...item41785ec7a1 ? I mean as a matter of power consumption..

A lot depends on the quality of the components in question...

If you purchased a high end ( ie say Minix ) device... then you may be ok... maybe. You would be likely getting close to the edge of the power your system could provide but it may or may not work reliably.

Without knowing exact specs of every component and what power each one uses... it's an educated guess at best. Add to that... most of the components you add won't have spec sheets available to actually tell you what they require in the terms of power.

Starting with the power supplies... most of the PSU's that are included with the common devices seen here aren't even close to provide the amperage that they are labeled as providing... So the first suggestions you will read for issues often will suggest the user get a good PSU.. issues like lockups and freezes are often caused by a cheap crappy PSU. Next the unit itself... the USB 2 standard allows for up to 500mah draw and 1.5a peak draw... if the PSU is as bad as I mentioned, do you think the uart chip provided in the units here are going to be much better?

It's really hard to generalize and also be accurate... so if we go off of the lower standards commonly seen and reported here... it's sketchy at best
