passive cooler on board v3.5 - what about black label?

    Hello,

I own a T-R42 with board revision 3.5 and want to upgrade it with a passive cooler on the processor.

As you can see on the atached picture (fetched from zokka2's thread about 3.5 FW, hope it is o.k.), there is a black label just where I think the processor is located.

Can I peel it of without danger to damage the processor, or should I place the cooler just on this lable?
What is the function of that black label at all?

Anyone who can help me with some info?
    Thanks in advance.

The black label might be there simply to obscure the chip?
My 2 cents. On closer inspection that is one really tight fitting label. Not sure why this was done.

ID:	439105[/QUOTE]Is it spongy like a slice of rubberised material? If so it is a thermal pad for extra cooling of the soc and you should be safe to lift it off,but you will need to keep it in one piece to put back as was otherwise it will likely overheat in under a couple of hours i assume and i am assuming, although the guess is coming from some experience of computer repair. You could if feeling brave and have the bits like doing a cooling mod, like i have done look at my threads to find the k-r42 cooling mod i did and see if you fancy something like that instead of a slab of thermal material to cool it off,not that it doesn't work,it's just not the best ever, although i must say my mod is 100% overkill by any standards. But i have Lewy20041 version 3 beta firmware with the overclock going at 1.6ghz and i have run it gaming playing films and online activity for near on 24hrs straight with no lag and no problems and i'm messaging off it as it still runs presently.Your tv box is technicaly mine with bluetooth and i should imagine or should i say i know 99% you can use the same firmware i have and do the same cooling mod job if necissary. The board revision will be different but almost identical in a respect.See the reason i state it being thermal material covering the sock is because i would question where the heatsink is? As mine had one and yours does not therefore explaining what the black thermal material would have to be as if it had 0 material and no heatsink it would 100% definately burn out.I would just do as i did for cheapness and for guarenteed stability to be honest it's the best mod i have done as of yet.
What is the world if you don't explore?
