Pipo M9 Pro - cannot set "WCDMA only" (3g only) with Finless or Riley

    Pipo M9 Pro - cannot set "WCDMA only" (3g only) with Finless or Riley

    Where I live, there is almost always 3g reception, but the signal is weak enough that the tablet will often switch back to 2G even when 3G is still available.

    On my Android phone, I can use the phone's hidden info menu to set network mode to "WCDMA only".

    However with my Pipo M9 pro, whenever I try to implement this setting, the setting will will not stick - it always reverts back immediately to "WCDMA preferred".

    I have tried the latest Riley and Finless ROMS and the behaviour is the same with both - anybody have any idea how to get around this annoying problem?

    Thanks so much if anyone can help me - without this feature the tablet is incredibly frustrating as it keeps switching to (unusable 2g) when it doesn't really need to.

    Since Chinese 3g doesn't work in the USA, I've never tested it...nor do I own a 3g tablet. If anyone has a suggestion, please chime in.

      Thanks Randy - Your ROM is awesome BTW - thanks so much. (Finless is great too)

      Hope somebody can suggest a solution to the 3G issue though!

        kiboy6, I have the same problem here with my my Pipo M7 pro 3G...
        I bought this tablet in August. I have tried all factory firmwares, all customs ROM: it is not relative to Randy or Bob ROM's (Riley/Finless).
        You couldn't force the WCDMA only or GSM only. So the tablet is looking and switching all the time beetween 2G or 3G. I never found a solution.
        Maybe it is kernel relative or libril, I don't know but it is really annoying I understand you.

          Thanks manao - that's very bad news for me

          After a botched attempt at the wifi antenna fix, my wifi is almost unusable so I'm reliant on 3G for internet on the tablet now.

          This wouldn't be a big deal if I could just get it to stick on 3G - but without being able to do so the thing is basically junk to me.

          Any kind expert soul out there who could think of / deploy a solution?

          I would be totally fine if a solution involved disabling the 2G connection altogether - the 2G is so slow as to be basically unusable anyway.

            I'll do some research.

            It may have to do with the modified libril file to help with deep sleep. I'm working today, but maybe someone can upload the stock version of that file to try as a potential fix. Otherwise it will Wednesday afternoon before I can boot my laptop to share the file.

                Thanks so much Randy - no rush at all if you do have the time to look into this. If it's not the libril file can you think of any other potential avenues to explore?

                  There has to be a setting in a file somewhere...like finding a needle in a haystack.

                    Hey Randy - just checking in regarding this If you or another expert had time to investigate this issue further it would be deeply appreciated! (no rush at all - would just be so great to get there eventually - the unusable EDGE connection is so frustrating!)

                        I noticed the exactly same behavior with my M6 pro as described in OP.

                        The apps available don't work, it always switches back to WCDMA preferred.

                        A solution would be highly appreciated

                          I have looked for a configuration file for 3g but I can't find one. It must all be in the kernel.
