Now, having nothing to lose, I took apart my device and located the NAND chip. Following instructions for the MK808 I used a small metal pin to short pins 8-9 from the right side of the NAND chip. IMPORTANT: I am not sure that it was pins 8-9, I was moving my pin around and got lucky. It is possible.
After I shorted these pins, Finless flash tool showed "found rkandroid loader rock usb" which I recognized as the flash mode of the device. My first step once my laptop recognized the device in flash mode was to ERASE NAND IDB. Once I did this my laptop no longer recognized the device. I was able to get it back into flash mode now, using the regular method of holding down the reset button for 4 seconds and then plugging it into a USB port. IMPORTANT: Use USB 2.0 if at all possible, or change your config file (as is documented in other posts).
I then flashed Finless 1.5a and my device once again works!! I am very very new to this and if I can unbrick my device, so can you. Have hope.
