Skype 3.2 crashes with SPDIF passthrough

    Hi

I looked everywhere to find solution to my problem but no luck so far.

Problem lies in sound settings for Skype and for watching movies. I use SPDIF for audio and HDMI for video (have aged Onkyo A/V receiver :-/). In order to get skype not crashing due to sound problem I have to set sound output to RK29_RT5616 & ROCKCHIP-SPDIF. If i do that Skype works and I can watch movies but with out passthrough option to my a/v receiver. To get dts passed to receiver while watching movies I set sound for ROCKCHIP-SPDIF passthrough and it works but skype does not. It crashes every time I make a call.

Is there any way to get around this?

And is minix dts decoding ability better than any decent a/v receiver? I understand that setting sound to RK29_RT5616 & ROCKCHIP-SPDIF make minix decode dts and pass it to a/v receiver in decoded form right? Which option is better?

    Thanks

    Mike

I think that there's a special minix version of Skype, are you using that one? For the rest I'm sorry but I don't know. On which firmware are you btw?

Skype 3.2 crashes with SPDIF passthrough

      Hi

Yes, I have that Skype 3.2 which works with minix but it is more about sound outputs. I tried many firmware ie Minix 008, 009, Quickshot v2 and some other can't remember really now. I'll stick with Hardware Guru v4 because it has 1080p kernel and works great.

How do you work it around? I just change settings whenever want to make Skype call.

              Quick update.
I started to use HDMI passthrough and skype is working fine.

Good for you. I must use SPDIF as I have still good but about 5yrs old A/V receiver that pass audio through to tv via hdmi not to speakers connected to receiver...

I'm in the same situation. I have cheap receiver which dont have HDMI-in port. I was able to switch my LG tv into passthorugh mode - it passes AC3 signal from HDMI to optical out. I use optical out from my TV to the receiver.

Unfortunately TV cant pass DTS in this way. Enabling even AC3 only support in TV was a nightmare...Lot of forums reading and hacking internal hidden menu.

I will have a look at it on the new HWG 05(soon) rom but i think it is a hard one as the mono sound that will give an issue with the patched libmedia.
