Ainol Novo 8 Discover / Discovery

So I've just bought this new tab.
I actually like it , Specs:
    Actions ATM7029 Quad Core
    2GB ram
    16GB internal
    Bluetooth
    IPS screen
    5000m ah battery

I was initially going to buy a tab with Rockchip RK3188, but a decent one would have costed anywhere up to an extra 100US.
This tab was only $130USD free shipping, and for my requirements (XBMC and watching movies) I thought it would do the job.

Now the tab in general is of great build quality. It has metal casing and the IPS screen is sensitive (unlike some other China tablets).

Cons: 1) There is a slight bright area on the bottom corner of the screen (when it is on). If you push down on the screen it dissapears , this may be a one off with my device.
    2) it is very heavy!
    3) speaker/WiFi not the best - but still useable
    3) android 4.1

The firmware on this device is horrible, I don't like it at all.
I read somewehere that there is an official release for 4.2 on this device. Has anyone used it? Is it better than the 4.1 that's originally on the device?

Most importantly, does anyone know of any custom ROM that would work on this device? I really hope there is!

    Hi,

I have the same tablet and the same problems (Minus the screen color in the bottom - sounds like just yours) I did find (and not easily) the new 4.2 firmware from Ainol. Unfortunately it is completely in Chinese as well as all instructions and the program which essentially make it useless. I have been keeping an eye for any updates about a Custom Rom but nothing at this moment and I don't want to try anything unless I know it will work. The tablet build quality and specs are awesome..the firmware sucks horribly. If anyone comes up with a workable firmware and update instructions..I would donate through Paypal as I really wish the software was better.

Until somethning comes up it looks like we have to wait
