IR sensor issue minix neo x7

Ive encountered this strange problem with my neo x7's IR sensor. I own a harmony one remote which i use to control my device and my TV, Sound system etc... whenever i use the volume contol on the remote (which is programmed to control my sound system) my minix's IR sensor also picks up the signal but interprets it as a power off command...so basically every time i attempt to adjust the volume my system crashes due to this strange bug.

I would like to know if there is any way to disable the IR sensor directly and simply use an external one like FLIRC. also please don't simply suggest placing tape over the sensor im looking for a real fix,

    I've already attempted:

editing the *.KL files in /keylayout and it was a no go.

rkxx module is built into the kernel, perhaps a kernel without the support could be built in to disable the support completely.

Thanks for the reply noderat, I finally just got tired of dealing with it and decided to remove it from the PCB entirely using my soldering iron.
