D33 KK kernel RAM overclock not working. FIXED!

    Hi,

I've patched D33's T kernel (kernel_t_AP6210_SD_v207) with the for kitkat modified overclock perl script.
    I'm using cpu@1800Mhz, gpu@stock and ddr@667.
Strangely there's no meaningfull difference between the 1800/667 or the 1800/528 Antutu scores.

    Shouldn't higher bandwidth increase performance?

    This also doesn't look right:

    Code:
    root@m0:/mnt/internal_sd # dmesg | grep ddrfreq
    <6>[ 2.060039] ddrfreq: verion 3.2 20130917
<6>[ 2.060073] ddrfreq: fix cpu pause bug
    <6>[ 2.060109] ddrfreq: normal 720MHz video 0MHz video_low 0MHz dualview 0MHz idle 0MHz suspend 198MHz reboot 222MHz
<6>[ 2.110059] ddrfreq: change freq to 445 MHz when normal
    The last line concerns me.
    Any input on this?

    Thanks.

    Regards

I have exactly the same problem. Indeed the last line is confusing. U overclock the ram and the last line set it back to default. And that's why u have no difference between 667 and 528. Who knows maybe its working all the time at 445 mhz.

      Hi Max,

yeah, I was thinking along the same line.
It indeed looks like the RAM speed is only briefly at the specified frequency and gets set back to 445 Mhz.
I figured it may had something to do with the fact that it's a T-kernel so I took the non-T kernel patched it to 667 Mhz and tried again but still the same result.
I'm also unable to increase the GPU frequency for some reason.

If I flash the non-T kernel my device crashes during boot, I know the CPU can work stable at 1800Mhz (lucky me btw) so the GPU or RAM must be the culprit, problem is I can't test what is causing the crash.

Anyway, I have a feeling there's something in the kernel that overrides the ram and gpu settings for some reason.
Finless default kitkat kernel did the same with the cpu frequency, D33's kernel fixed this.
If I could only get the ram and gpu to overclock I would be a happy camper. :-)

      Oh, I'm getting some quite impressive Antutu scores @ cpu=1800 / gpu & ram = stock, 19726.
Not bad at all for a RK3188T.

I hope D33 and PHJANDERSON join in on this thread as they're the people who build the awesome kernel and awesome overclock tool.

      Regards

D33 fixed the issue in his v300 release.
        Thread can be closed.
