Q7 - root method, working rom, xbmc

Hello,
Looking for more information regarding the Q7 Android TV box. Geekbuying sells it. There was a couple threads from January for it, but there's no confirmation that the newest firmware solves the issues.

Looking for:

1) working root method
2) working ROM (it has a different wireless chip, so the roms out there for 3188 don't work)
3) How to get smooth XBMC playback

I have 2 of these boxes and I am at the end of my tether with them. No custom roms work, and if they do they lose functionality over the stock rom. I have tried Beyond 3.3, 3.4 and Gotham beta 3 and all have the micro frame skipping issue that every android box seems to be plagued with when you get it out of the box, doesn't matter if its SD, 720p or 1080p vids I'ts still the same. All that is needed is to keep the stock firmware but change the kernel to a better one if I'm guessing correctly, but I don't have the skills to do this. As for now they sit in my cupboard gathering dust!

Downloaded it and tried it with Beyond XBMC 3.4. Still has the micro frame skipping issue (video stutter) which is the main issue that plagues these boxes. This version is actually worse than the stock version as there is no Play store either. So in this version we lose functionality, and gain nothing. Back to the drawing board!

I readded the marked and rooted it. Just flash system.img at 0x00282000!

I just started following this thread, I ordered and received one of these boxes this week and was extremely disappointed to find out XBMC doesn't work properly on it. I've tried a few different versions and all with the same results, anything HD is choppy. Wondering if everyone else watching this thread is in the same boat or if anyone has found a custom XBMC build, or a Custom ROM, or anything that will make this box work properly? I paid $114 for a paper weight, hopefully someone can help.

+1 to this. I think I was the first to try this rom and have found no problems with it using Beyond 3.4. The video still freezes 10 mins in on certain films in HD but that is due to a fault with libstagefright hardware acceleration in XBMC which nobody has found a fix for as yet.
