    Help needed to identify mk808b

Hello, I'm new to this forum any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased an MK808B, I've been experiencing intermittent black screens and sound loss so I want to try and update the rom. I looked at the identify your device thread but the pictures are a little blurry, my MK808B looks like the genuine version(it only has one wired wifi antenna but I'm not sure.

    Rom recommendations would be great.

Hi m8 this looks like one of the none RK903 chipset clone models.
Pictures of MK808Bs on page 8 of the thread identifying clone models look pretty close to your model.
You will need to flash with a none original MK808B rom.
Have a read through and see if things are any clearer.

    Hope I helped

    Ed

Can anyone recommend a rom. I've read that clones tend to loose wifi and bluetooth so is there a way to copy the rom from my device before I flash a new rom

Your mk808b is "clone" with ap6210 chip, then any 3066 ROM with support for AP6210 will work.
Search on forum new rockchip tool ( i thinks v 2.1) for FW backup posted by mo123

This is NOT TRUE! Some models are different in some way. If you flash one of the standard roms they will not boot and you can only revive your stick with a backup of your stock rom. So ALWAYS do a backup if you are not 100% sure the new firmware will work.
Here is a threat on how to make a full backup of your nand:

You don't have to worry about me installing the wrong rom I can't even make a nand backup yet. I installed the driver and turned on android tool v2.1it says on the bottom (found one maskrom device)
When I press export image it says (export image fail) I put 0 for start and 2 on count like the readme file says. I know im doing something wrong I just don't know what.

Is there another way to back up the rom, like using clock work?

There is a cwm for MK808B, but you can not tell if it is compatible with your model.
I guess your Problem is that you are in mask rom mode but you need to be in flash mode. What method are you using to enter this mode?

I am just trying to save DannyCalifornia from the fate of the guys in the thread above that were not able to boot their device with any firmware until someone shared a full firmware dump some time later.

I know that many firmwares are interchangeable between different rk3066 devices, but not all are. You can't say all firmwares will work just by giving examples of some that do.
It's like if you claim that all swans on the planet are white. You can't prove that theory by showing me 10000 white swans. But i can quickly prove you wrong by showing you one black swan .

I had to press the reset button while I plugged in to otg. I was looking at the cwm thread but I haven't seen if it works with clones plus there's two files for the mk808b.

Okay, then your device behaves different. You can try to hit the "switch" button in the AndroidTool 2.1 and see if it changes to flash mode. It should say something like "found one Rockchip loader device".CWM works for some clones but not for all. Unfortunately there is no way to tell beforehand if it will work or not.

Thanks for the help you guys provided, but I'm giving up upgrading my rom for now. I'll keep reading posts for now until I feel like I know what I'm doing. Thanks again.
