Got a second unit off the web I liked my 701c so much but this is the 701i....

...and it came with ICS. Can't seem to get it to fully root (at least I think-can't successfully install the market app yet so I can't download "root checker' either! ARGH!!!).

Anyhow, with those with a 701i if you could maybe provide a little insight/help, you would be my new best friend, hehe.

    Thanks!

Ok guys. I figured out the issue. It could *possibly* be considered a 'noob' issue but I think not. Apparently I was trying to use a previous version of SuperOneClick (2.3.1 I believe) instead of the latest version. Once I switched to the latest version, I was able to fully root.

Just wanted to post this in the hopes that someone else might benefit...

This somewhat odd. My 701i was factory rooted, and all I did was add superuser.apk to it, updated it a few times from within the su app until it really took, and viola! Fully rooted. Busybox was not very nice however. It boot looped me.

It should be factory rooted. I just got mine 2 weeks ago and was able to install everything.

Download a terminal emulator, go to the command line and type su... it should return #... that means you have root.

This was not true with the unit I had-it was only partially rooted (once I got google play loaded I downloaded root check basic to verify root status).

I didn't have any problem, it was rooted. Maybe they aren't consistent.

Judging by what I've seen with the different problems/issues I've seen, I'd say that's a fair statement.

I doubt that-plenty of messages here to the contrary (partially rooted, but not full root).

I believe that the reason that they call the 701i partially rooted is because the OS file system is read only. All you have to do is install E.S. File Exporer and use it's setup to mount /system as writable. That is all I did.

Also, until you can get the Google Play Store installed, download and install the 1mobile market app (1mobile.com). It will allow you to download and install just about any free android app. That's how I got E.S. File Explorer.

I got it to work (finally) with the app and everything, but E.S. File Explorer refusted to mount /system as writable-I had to perform the root steps done with the 701C....
