    RK3288 vs S802

Is it true that the RK3288 is the slightly better choice between the two? I am in the market for 2 more boxes to put XBMC on and was wondering if I should be looking at something based on the rk3288 or s802.

My 2cents >>> 3 quad core RK devices, 1 quad core allwinner and 1 dual core amlogic. The amlogic makes the others seem like junk. Never a rockchip for me again.

      I think...
      Its to soon to tell...
Benchmarks doesnt tell if the unit..
is a good mediaplayer/gameconsol/xbmc or if the unit is userfriendly.. or performs well out-of-the-box
      Time will tell...

I just get the sample pcba board base on rk3288 from tronsmart.

the antut score is just 22000, lower than amlogic, it need much more work on firmware at least now. rockchip rk3288 is just too new. as far as i know, the real sample will come in 2 month later.

so like you said,it's too early to talk this.

Sneaky. The Ugoos rk3288 has an rk3188 under the hood. 'Least that is what indicated in specs table. They've also carefully supplied images that fully obscure the face of the SOC. All I can make out is "Rockchip"....

its not exactly clear what's rockchip is doing with 3288, they declared that the switch to cortex a17 wont happen till 2015 so it would be too early to have samples now.
probably they started producing the "old" revision with cortex a12 while waiting for the new core project to be completely integrated and tested.
dunno why they are still using the same product name for both.

                that's a print refuse, it says cortex a17, that's rk3288.
still its pretty clear that the board shown its not the same described in specs, it has mini-pcie, more usb ports, hdmi in and a lcd ribbon strip controller, all of it missing in specs.
it would be great a board with all these ports but it would cost too much, probably that's rk generic dev board, not their project.

                  Rockchip RK3288 ZERO Devices Z6C

One of the first videos of a RK3288 board running. It actually can boots in 18 seconds, quiclky compared with RK3188 sticks.

Anyway this is a testing motherboard and some small things will be changed, also its software must to be improved, still at begining stage.

Amlogic S802H (S802DD) support DOLBY TrueHD and DTS HD Bypass through HDMI.

Will Rockchip RK3288 have tv boxes that support
DOLBY TrueHD and DTS HD Bypass through HDMI? Might there be different versions of RK3288 and only one supporting passthrough the same way Amlogic has different chips?

I am asking as I will be buying a box soon but Bypass is essential for me. I would also want hardware H.265
HEVC decoding but not at the cost of Bypass.

I think Amlogic S802H boxes are good enough for me but is it worth waiting a little longer for a RK3288 box?

amlogic announced S812 which should fix some perceived shortfalls of s802 like h.265 uhd hardware decode and gigabit ethernet.

After all the issues with that RK3188, Rockchip dragging their feet on providing patches for RK3066, their shaky relationship with firmware developers and not providing kernel sources. I'm rooting for anyone other than them. It's not like they're the only one's in china that can make take IP cores from ARM and Imagination Technologies and make chips. Amlogic, Freescale, Allwinner provide their kernel sources.

That's one big issue, the S802-H is not licensed to bypass DTS-HD MA. Only for DTS/DD+ or decoding internally.

What's the situation today, is S802 still worth buying over RK3288?

I was considering replacing my ageing RK808 with either

                              or
