M8 Square Box "Stock ROM" Easy Root ZIP update

Here is a simple way to "properly" root your M8 with stock ROM since that's all we have right now!

This is a flashable ZIP package. You do not need a program or a flash tool!

Note: the file name is s89 but this works on the M8 as well.

Instructions:

1) Download this zip file and put it on a SDcard. DO NOT unzip it!
Note: It may work on the internal SDcard but I did not test it as you cant write to it from the PC as this ROM does not support Mass Storage.
2) Put the SDcard into the S89 SD slot.
3) Go into your APPs and run the update tool.
4) In the update tool click the "select" button. It should list the file s89_root_update.zip. Click it.
5) Now press the update button.
6) The system should reboot into recovery and automatically install the zip.
However sometimes it reboots to the recovery menu! Not sure why.
If it does, then using the mouse, select "Apply updated from EXT"
Now select SDcard. You should see the s89_root_update.zip file. Select it.
Recovery will then install the update. When done select reboot system from the menu.

That's it! You are now PROPERLY rooted!

I have M8 from china trying to update but looks like box don't want to take the file.Trying Titanium back up got info box isnt rooted.
Yours root file don't work too.Box is amlogic quad core , mali450 ,4.4 kitkat
don't know how to fix it.

Hi, first post here and glad I found this site,lot of useful info,guides and not to mention helpful people

I would like to take the time and thank Bob for his time and effort in creating the "Easy Root update". Did it with a friend of mines M8box-square and it rooted it perfectly(in fact due to permissions given,I had fewer glitches in apps that needed root)
I have the Mx2, but my M8 will be here in a few days,thanks to a very generous supplier that I have

I'm not sure that correctly understood. I put the jumper on the findings between the USB and HDMI connectors and tried to install again. Got error again.

Not quite sure what you want to do.

if it root the box go through your andriod ui launcher and do update via that way either sd card or usb stick just extract the items onto your prefered storage device.

why do you need jumper for this? unless you want to adb to the box

if you cannot get into the andriod ui , then just add recovery file from finless rom or acemax or my roms and do the toothpick ,method this will get you the normal recover mode.
