Checking Download file fail on Rom Flash

Flashed KK 2.7 a few weeks ago and all was wonderful, just lately have started to get more and more reboots and the tab was becoming unusable, well lets start again with 2.8.1 seemed like a good idea.

I have trouble getting the usb cable into the tab so it will be seen, given up on the win7 laptop, back on old win xp desktop, so all seen, reboot to flash mode good, wipe nand good, flash rom - all goes well until "start to check download data" gets to 12836k and I get an "ERROR download file failed" followed by an "ERROR Run failed" line. I think 12836 each time.

This happens a couple of times and the tab is not booting, I decide to flash 2.7 again, do the thing holding esc, pin in reset, hold power, see the flash tool find my device, release esc and pin, still holding power run erase nand and then flash 2.7 rom, release power button, much the same problem download file check fails at the end.

I am thinking the check is just a check and the rom should be loaded, but still difficult to start.

After a bit am able to boot into 2.7 and all looks ok, log into wifi - good, log into google - good.

Checking settings, storage nand is showing as 9.99gb with 9.99 available, some odd kb's in apps, pictures, audio, downloads and misc.

Tablet has been stable for over an hour, changed to uk english, switched off some of the sounds and guess I will have to see how we go.

Am I missing something when I flash the rom ?

    thanks for reading this, mick

Still getting the close down after 5, 10 whatever minutes, no pattern. Have to reset and reboot every time, not always booting into rom so sometimes 2 or 3 tries. M7pro now banished to corner of room

So I decide to re-download the rom, 2.8.1, same file sizes as before, manage to force flash mode - esc button, pin in reset, power button. see flash tool "found" device, release esc, release reset, manage to erase nand still holding power button, flash rom holding power button, tablet is connected to charger.
All this on win 7 laptop and completed and check download completes.
Disconnect usb, get the recovery text lower left corner of screen - E:failed to mount /metadata (Invalid argument)
E:/failed to mount /mnt/external_sd (no such device)

      Formats /data.. formats /cache... formats /mnt/internal_sd....

Now sometimes will try to boot after reset, some times won't. but mostly fails while booting.

      pipo back in the corner

12 hours later switch on the M7pro, nothing, press power a few more times still nothing, pin the reset and switch on again - we are booting (all on full battery)

Boots past where it was stopping yesterday, full boot - so into settings, set time/date, switch off sounds, change keyboard to UK english, connect to wifi, log in to google, attempt to open play store - black screen !! - back to nothing, remember that Fug's song from the 60's - no don't suppose you do, but now the tablet is back in the corner for a bit.

Am I tripping myself up trying to go from 2.7 to 2.8.1 and reloading the same loader in the flashtool, I am switching between kitkat versions not back and forth to jellybean, is that why the recovery text was reading "E:failed to mount /metadata (Invalid argument)" or will it show fail because it's already done ?

I cannot remember what the recovery text was when I had a working rom, but am thinking every little thing need attention now and these things just slip past in a blink of an eye.

Guess I will have to go back to a jellybean rom, any other suggestions (buy another tablet?)

Let it sit for a bit but raining and of course can not let it sit.

Connect to laptop, esc/reset/power button, getting good at that one, use kitkat RR 2.8.1 flash tool to erase nand, good.

Switch to jellybean RR 2.2 flash tool and run flash rom, all looks good, recovery looks good but still unstable and prone to just switching off. Getting cocky try to flash kitkat RR 2.7 again - well it's worked before for me from 2.2

All appears good, numbers match etc, still get E:failed to mount /metadata (invalid argument) as the recovery starts, 2 or 3 attempts to boot, crashes again.

Start over, kitkat flash tool to erase nand, jellybean flash tool to flash 2.2 this time major problem, chickens out half way, cannot get laptop to see tablet again, won't start, boot, back to worse than nothing.

Find suggestion to open back of tablet and short the nand chip, picture included, give this a go. Open back, picture "nothing" like my tablet - building a theme here, sorry.

Find narvatu posts #111 http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?10001-Pipo-M7-Pro-RileyROM-2-5-KitKat/page6 seems to be having the same trouble, pictures look like my tablet, I will include one. Click image for larger version

So, state of play at the moment, my turn to cook dinner but had to delegate that, M7pro can sit in pieces until.......... The tablet will not start/boot/whatever, esc, power, reset in any order, soft brick or hard brick as far as I am concerned its still a brick. Beginning to think that even if I were to get it going my trust has gone, I know this is all beta and it's my risk, worked well on 2.7 kitkat for a while. thanks for taking the time to read this story. Been looking at this post, I can see it's M6pro but like the idea of keeshg to not open tablet, so use charger, plug in usb, open RKBatchTool and see a green square - see's my tablet, try to place a filmware path top of page, won't accept anything, curser blinks but no keypress works, try cut and paste, no don't like that. I am not sure what FW to use there but willing to try anything. post # 23 in the M6pro thread reads "load the right rom-image file" guess I was trying the wrong one.

Guess that as batchtool see's my tablet then RomFlashTool 137 should and am surprised to see that's true, would not see it yesterday, possibly because the charger is plugged in or rkbatchtool is still open.

I go for it again, using RR 2.2 jellybean and RR 2.8.1 kitkat downloads, both batchtools see (found) the tablet, I have an erase nand session, first with 2.2 then with 2.8.1 then again for luck and again for any reason you like. I then go for flash rom using the RR 2.2 package, I keep the loader ticked, all seems to go well. Recovery seems to work but quits before I can read the last line.

But now worse than unstable, I reset and can only get half way rebooting before it stops/quits or I get a green battery middle of screen, try a few times charger in charger out, we are booting nowhere and I cannot tell if the tablet battery is flat or charged, should be good - but.

This is a crop of my screen after the last try, I am guessing my nand is not being adjusted at all or perhaps it's battery problems, I am convinced that letting 2.7kk run down to flat kicked off this run of problems, then again it was a full moon and I did stand on one leg and hop up and down

so no progress, no clues, no nothing.

A Later Edit: Left the tab in the corner for a few hours, reset and pressed power button, tab rebooted into jellybean RR2.2, ran really really well for half an hour, fast, smooth, but then not much to trouble it you would think, then crashed as usuall.

Managed a couple of screen shots, battery is/was fully charged, nand has 10.67GB (9.99GB has been seen? -kk?) and shows its running the RR 2.2 4.2.2 rom build.

Rebooted again, looked good for half an hour again then crash off again, I suppose this is an improvement, well you have to be optimistic .
I think we have had our quota of good reboots today, now refusing to complete boot, perhaps I should be looking at other kernels, not played with them yet, something for the weekend sir .

over here in the UK it's time for bed, sleep well.

OK, Thursday morning, bin men miss our house and only do the neighbours, good start to the day. Switch on the tablet - boots into jellybean nice, all there again, fast, smooth, apps, widgets, love it when its working. Switch off, switch on, almost forgot how that works... then black screen, just closed down and now won't reset again.

Looked at some other post, decide to roll back to RR 2.2.1,some post's suggesting it was stable, flashed rom - all went well, but would not boot, just switching off again, so flash RR 2.2 again, go's well again, but as 2.1.1 the boot is not finishing. Leave it for now.

Late Edit: Friday morning, find tablet will boot into RR 2.2, but as before soon get's fed up with that sort of thing being asked of it and closes down, lucky or unlucky tablet, perhaps I have the lazy tablet, at least the bin men have been back for the rubbish and the pipo's not in the bin yet

Later Edit: A week of picking the tab up and it booting (but always back to basic, my settings gone?) and picking it up and not booting, and when it is running kitkat or jellybean it will just close without any reason and not to much being asked of it, saw the P8 announcement post and suggestion that quad core tablets will be left in oblivion, I am ahead of the game here - my M7pro has been in oblivion for over a week now and am thinking of replacing with something that works, I do like jellybean and even more kitkat, my old HP Touchpad still boots webos or ice cream sandwich - runs slowly, but runs - I have never had these sort of problems with it. Have a couple of smart phones, a few flavors of android again - never this sort of problem and more flashing than the pipo.

My problems seem hardware but could be a software glitch caused by flashing, I wipe the nand and reflash but something just ain't taking. Also have a 10" windows 8.1 tablet, wow that's hard work (I dream of duel booting windows and android - one day), but it's for work and an android tab for play would be nice (or some half decent apps on windows metro - I know !!).

I have seen Android jump in sophistication over the last few years, next couple with faster processors looks like fun, but it will be on a stable tablet for me, not sure I will be looking for a cheap import again.

Sunday 4th May Edit: Just picked up the tab, touch power kitkat is there good as gold, page to settings, change system time zone, change to uk english, look at storage levels, try screensnapshot - tab hangs then switches off, black screen, less than 10 minutes.
Chuck it back in the corner...........

Been picking the M7pro up, reseting, booting, getting nowhere, charge battery, sometimes boots into TWRP ? cannot remember much of that in the past, just add's a couple of stages into the mix, can get it to run eventually but always just quits, shame.

See English PC World doing a version of the Tegra Note 7" for £114 really want a larger tablet but decide to give it a try, free delivery, switch on, boots, super fast in antutu, ota upgrade to 4.3, then ota to 4.4.2, couple of minor system updates and we are running and downloading my android apps. Nice stylus with this, great sound. SD card out of Pipo and into Tegra, no going back now

My thinking is in a years time I will be looking for a faster tablet, this will do until then, sorry Pipo you have lost me, was fun for a time but..........

Wow, I can't believe I've missed your thread until now.

It looks like you have tried EVERYTHING I know of to get it working. The symptoms sound to me like a bad NAND chip because you have the same problem after a certain period of time.

Have you tried flashing a stock JB firmware to rule out anything wrong with the custom ROM's you have been flashing?

I suspect that you have faulty hardware and if you can, send it back for replacement/repair. If you have a good M7 Pro, I'm sure you would extremely happy with it. I have not had a lick of trouble with mine.
