I do not yet feel ready to think about putting other roms etc on the device, as described in detail here, and wonder if those "in the know" could suggest what apps they think they would add to it on arrival?

I would like to use xbmc on it, is there a particular version that is suited to this?

    Any helps appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Help

I tried putting new roms on my MK808B but since it isn't something that you leave up all the time, I didn't like them because most rom developers like to brand their mods with custom boots and things that I wouldn't have put in myself.

That being said, I now have mine completely stock with the November rom from Geekbuying, probably the latest. I did root it so that I could use apps to delete some of the system apps that took up space. The default partition is 1.5GB so there is plenty of room for the kinds of apps that you would use on a tv. I also added an external wifi antenna, and my next modification will probably be to add a USB powered fan.

As for XBMC, you should probably start here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?9603-Beyond-XBMC

I use mine mostly as a media center, so I have all the media players I use, like netflix, hulu, pandora, mx player, tunein radio, etc. There are probably some games, but I don't use mine much for gaming, I have a tablet for that.

I like the way you put that....that is exactly what i did with the rom i did....I took out as much as possible but kept it functional....i dont care much about how it looks...i want it to be fast and easy to use.

One downside to it, there are some performance enhancements that developers know about but are keeping secret. Don't ask me why.

Thank you...nice to see some replies rolling in, understanding what others think without using the development side of things is something that is not a lot written about...perhaps those with expertise find it too boring to contemplate!

No doubt somewhere along the line, we will meander into this area, but just using their own built in capabilities in the 1st instance is something to grasp as well. I do have android tablet and phone, so I understand the learning task should not be much more difficult.

Like budgetgeek, I want to do similar (maybe without root first) and probably use it as a simple xbmc media device.

Also, does the usual stock factory add ons have anything like the ezcast function already built into them, or can you add this from the playstore to the mk808B?

Lastly, I do see some talk that many have to connect to a power source rather than the tv usb port to get stable playback? I do have a tronsmart t1000, and it works perfectly via the tv usb via wireless, and thus hoping for the same with the mk808b. Fortunately for me, the distance between my wireless point and the tv is only 3 metres, so perhaps this is why I am not experiencing issues?

Anyone else with any unaltered factory rom information, would be appreciated.

          Thanks so far...

Thank you...after bumbling about I have saved the download...are you saying this is the best stable firmware for the mk808b, and I should update to this beforehand or later?

I guess there is an updater in the existing installed software to do this, ex factory?

Sorry, bit dim on all this so far...
