Ethernet Slower Than Wi-Fi!

Using the Speedof.me website to test my internet speeds on both wired and wireless connections, my Ethernet download speeds are consistently much slower. Uploads however are faster than on wi-fi.

Ethernet:

15.33 mbps down
9.49 mbps up

Wi-Fi

42.19 mbps down
5.8 mbps up

Ethernet downloads are sharply throttled. This is the inverse of the rule that wired connections are always faster. It reminds me of the same issue with Amlogic's MX2 boxes - notably Matricom's Gbox Midnight 2.

Let's hope Acemax can do better than this with their next firmware release. I haven't tested the Geekbuying version yet.

Does yours 5GHz work?
Mine doesnt work on this version.
My biggest problem is that paid apps doesnt work, i really hope they will fix that soon.

Yes, my M8 connects to my Linksys router at both 5ghz and 2.4 ghz. The 5ghz channel it seems to like is 149. Check your router settings and try changing the 5ghz channel it uses.

I too hope Acemax are listening to our feedback. They've done a great job of customizing XBMC Gotham for this box. Now it's time to swat the remaining bugs:

1. Play Store: paid apps will not install
2. Ethernet: download speeds throttled and much slower than Wi-Fi
3. Launcher: laggy
4. Mbox Settings app: force closes randomly, with an irritating message each time.
5. Blue LED light: flashes randomly when unit goes on standby.

There may be other bugs - but if these can be fixed, we'll have an excellent firmware base for tapping the real potential of the M8 box.

I can confrim

- blue light lights up randomaly when in standyby and no red light in standby
- 5ghz greater than 5 meters shit althought 2.4ghz is normal as most other devices

I can also confirm now that my wifi 2.4ghz is quicker than my ethernet
