Help Identify device [MoBo PHOTO] and give hints/help please

    Hello everyone,

bought this device off ****, I am a complete novice with android and such devices and I have two main issues with it:

    http://www.****.co.uk/itm/2812761149...84.m1497.l2649
(The device's logo at boot says R-BOX)

    1) problems with XBMC and HW accel. (choppy video)
    2) problems with video being too dark/contrasty compared to previous media player (WDTV Live).

No1 I can live with, using some workaround (other/native player) although it is annoying and I would prefer to be pointed to the right direction.
No2 is a dealbreaker for me ..If there is no workaround for this I'm selling the unit.

Could someone please point me to the right direction ? I am overwhelmed from all the information on this forum and I don't know where to start... I don't even know what model I have..

    Thanks

    same problem

I also have the same problem as you. We both need to root the device and put a custom rom on. I also need help in doing this.

There are many variations of this device all look the same. I believe the motherboard has exact version you have before you can mod it.

Hello, I'm back with a photo of my motherboard. I have added some numbers/identifiers on the chips that couldnt be seen on the photo for your convenience. Can someone tell me what I'm looking at ? Cheers

      p.s.

This model is commonly sold as the CS918. I don't have any experience with them but they are more or less the same as cs968 but I wouldnt go ahead and flash a CS968 rom on to it (for one, thing it doesnt have a camera).

look for cs918 ROMS and you should be on your way.

At least yours is rooted, I need to root mine and put better ROM on it. If I find anything out will let you know. You need to be very careful though as you risk bricking device otherwise.

Your model (as far as I can tell) is the CS848, which has a dual core RK3066 (not quad core RK3166). Look for CS848 firmwares/roms, and you should be good to go.

                      hi vortex

                      Hi, vortexLooks like you have a new version of a T-r42 ( rk3188_BOX_V3.0 )
-this probably means no custom roms (yet) for your unit

Can you post a review of your unit ( with pic's of settings )

                      If you can..
Can you ask your reseller for a stock-rom
-then post the d/l here at freaktab..
--So developers can look at the source.. and to help others users ( that installed a wrong fw on there unit)

Or if you have the knowledge.. make a backup of your units firmware

                      Or

After making a backup or getting a stock fw.. you could try using

Have tried 'video calibration' in xbmc? ( see xbmc/system/sytem/video output)
                      Or
Have you tried making a 'advancedsettings.xml' file for Xbmc?
Or try a differend version of xbmx... like SPMC

                      Cheers..

                        That unit is a CS918.

Whatever brand name or model they sell it under, that is a CS918. As I said to the previous poster, looking for things under the name "CS918" will yield you many more results than the specific name that particular reseller has attached to it.

I sincerely doubt theres any hardware difference between that particular brands version of the CS918 and others. The only differenating factors in these devices seems to be MTK vs AP6210 wifi/bluetooth chips. Once thats sorted out, it should be ok.

                          I'm not so sure ...
According to this page ( http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php.../#.U29o361utct ) my box IS NOT CS918, since it does not look like any of them ...

                            The difference between them
                            K-R42 or CS918 or mk888 = has no bluetooth
Units with bluetooth are called T-R42

There are about 3 versions of cs918
There are about 12 versions of the T-R42

                            Anyway..
I wanted to post this link..

                            With possible solution..

The link.. says eny as vendor

                            The call there unit Ekb311
Now looking at the firmware page

It looks like firmware ekb311b... could be your unit
