I just hope that Tronsmart and Beelink can release the source code so they do not lose the advantage they have being first to market before the RK3288 chipset.
Its almost too late already - pitty. The Rockchip community is super strong and they already have good kernel devs. Amlogic have no community kernel devs i know of. D33 was the closest we got to that and he gave up on amlogic months ago.

If we don't get access to their git repository (not the odd outdated source fur ball) its all pointless and cosumers will flock to where the community focus

        +1

maybe a little bit longer, because I don't think they release the rk3288 during the next 3 month, but then...
And at the moment the most guys waiting for the rk3288 instead of buying an aml...

why not think about allwinner A80?

Allwinner have many develop board, like Cubieboard(http://cubieboard.org/).

I am very optimistic about A80's market prospects.

Because of the developer community... is it bigger as at the AML... and big like at rockchip?
(If not, why to run into the next 'dead end'?)

At rockchip it is a really really big developer community because of the available and useful source codes and so on...

I think it is at AML to grow up at the market by releasing useful dev stuff...

I don't know much about developer community.

But allwinner expand the development board market from company strategy,I didn't see this from RK/AML.

Making RK's source code publishing is without agreement from RK ,I think.it's personal action.

Of cause 'personal action'... this means community... without the really good kernel dev's e.g. her at the board, rk3188 sucks...

                  EDIT:
And what I see at the moment about the kernel of the AML M8 (also the really basic available source at the moment) s802 also sucks (and maybe it's a 'dead end')...

I'm very close to build the rootfs + kernel + uboot with buildroot. This includes the AML codec libs as well. Been struggling for a while but found a proper Ubuntu 12.04 deployment script for the environment that should fix my probs.
They use 3 different compilers to build these three parts - which is what threw me off. The biggest pain is the libplayer (with ffmpeg as basis for the amlogic codec) which is a hacked configuration it seems - very confusing and contradictory.
Its basically includes everything but the android part.
If I succeed then I will upload this tree and we can at least build the low level platform and start to optimize, fix and add features.

                    For those interested:

first step:git clone git://github.com/xbmc/xbmc.git ,then git pull the Gotham branch.

second:read the doc in docs/README.android,it will tell you how to build the compile environment and how to build to APK.
