After extensively testing, my conclusion is that Beyond XBMC is not longer very good for 4.4 roms. We have to wait for Flumpster (bxbmc dev) to make a new version.

The best way to use xbmc on a 4.4 rk3188 device right now seem to be the latest stable build of Gotham (ie Official XBMC) which Settings>Video>Advanced>Libstagefright decoding only (the other one disabled)

Using this, I can play a local 6gb< 1080p HD mkv with pratically no stutter. eHomeMediacenter is still the best way to play local media, but Gotham is near flawless (in my case).

I have found that certain encodes work less well with Gotham (some badly done scene releases, ect). The 1080p file playing flawlessly for me that I mention above I encoded myself from a Blu Ray I own.

I'm still rolling with Beyond XBMC v3.4 simply because it has the most working addons {Channels} ... As far as 1080p movies/video playback with AC3 DTS I'm rolling with Plex, MXPlayer Pro ... The best media player via a Android TV 4.4 ROM build in my opinion is still the "eHomeMediaCenter" ...

I have managed to shoehorn just about every addon I want into Gotham, using several methods:

1. Get all your addons working in a non-Gotham build (BXBMC, for instance)

2. Back it up using XBMCbackup addon

3. Restore this to your new Gotham setup. It will tell you many are incompatible and if you want to keep it anyways, say YES.

4. Go one by one testing each addon to see if they actually work. Note the ones that dont.

5. For each that doesnt work, try changing the addon.xml to approrpiate python version and trying to install from zip.

6. Failing that, search google for "addon name Gotham" and you should find solutions for it.

I did this and every addon worth a hoot is working now.

That's another thing to, the Beyond XBMC v3.4 is more user friendly ... The above method for adding addon is to complex for the average Joe ... Anyway Flumpster will be upgrading Beyond XBMC and a Gotham XBMC build very soon ...

Thnks servo, with gotham no problem with 720/1080p playback in xbmctorrent. And the most important plugins worked.


The only thing in gotham is the new "subtitle service"... don´t have auto sync, but nothing is perfect xD.

Resolution is blurry

Hi Tech1, first thank you for your new release of xbmz, greatly appreciated. I tested this and found that it's pretty smooth and fast to connect, 1080 stream movies are not stream as smooth (stutter) as beyond xbmc. The worse part is the resolution is pretty bad, I would say "blurry" - text, images, thumbnails etc.... This what I have found so far...

Haha I know, don't panic, obviously the resolution is a huge draw back, it slapped right to my eyes and yes all add-on are working great! A few upgrade possible better than beyond?? cross my fingers.

I don't think you understand, you are taking this out of context, first of all, I don't have a XBMC release, it's only a proof of concept Only, that's all... I was not trying to reinvent the wheel by making a new XBMC.apk ..{lol}

Is it possible you could recompile and make the resolution same as beyond? I think your prototype is not bad at all after testing some more. All plug-in are working well, just the resolution issue.
