Tronsmart s89 Std has no output/picture

Please could anybody help me, I appreciate you are all busy people and have done a lot of good work on ths device.

i received a Tronsmart Vega S86 standard edition today and after unpacking and setting up the power lead, hdmi cable. I switched on the box and got a blue light but I have no picture/output on the tv. I have tried a new hd I lead and tried the analogue 3 jack output but still have had no luck.

i have not tried any firmwares or updates of any kind.

Please could anyone help as this was a gift for my fathers birthday and I'm a complete noobie to android boxes.

any replies would be greatly appreciated.

sounds dead to me, I guess you could try plugging the cable between the OTG port and your computer ans seeing if it tries to load drivers, this will at least let you know if there is any life.

Alternatively it may just be that your TV is not capable of the default 1080p, only 1080i/720p

Thank you for your quick reply ice coffee.

I connected the box to a laptop, via the OTG port and I was able to load the drivers and open a folder containing android files from the box.

My television set is getting a bit old but the specifications say that it has full hd 1920 x 1080 http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/...specifications

Do you think it would be worth trying to reset the box using the toothpick method? I am not sure if this would actually reset the box and iron out any glitches. As I say I am a complete noobie.

Also could I try to installing firmware without visibly being able to see what is happening, or would this be a bad idea.

My only other thought would be to open the box and try to find loose wiring ect, as I say I would not know entirely what I would be looking for or doing. On the plus side I do have a soldiering Iron and some solider handy.

      Thanks again for your help.

I have downloaded finless 1.4, but have not tried to flash anything. Should I return the box, overseas at my cost?

I should have gone through geekbuying as finless says and not through the link for mcbub, I got from this site. The only reason I went with them was I needed the box for my dad's birthday and I had the option to pay for an express delivery, which cost me 15 pound, plus an extra 3.56 that Dhl wanted as they did not pay for the full shipping costs. What makes it worse is that it arrived a week late and I still can't give it to him.

1/ Do you try other tv, or different hdmi cable?

2/ Try a new flash with OTG port. Maybe you have a dirty flash with your box.

No output at HDMI AND at A/V but blue light works and PC see it (also 'adb shell' works and you can e.g. do a 'ls' ???)...
Then a general problem with your TV (but I don't think so, because I have this trouble with a MX but I only have no output at HDMI at my TV (many others yes))...
Or it is a HW Problem at the device...

Taking into account you claim to be a newbie your easiest option would be to reflash the factory 101k4 .img file that has been provided on this forum. The poster has given you a couple of different options to flash but for you, I believe you will need to put the box in download mode (using the toothpick) and use the windows PC flash tool. Although unlikely it is possible that during testing somebody locked it at 4k resolution, and now your TV cant see the picture. This reflash will fix that and many other potential problems.

Just as a heads up, when you open the tool it is in chinese (I think ?) the second option in the top tool bar is language, select that and choose english (assuming you can't read chinese)

Ok, it's an idea but 4K at A/V, not really

Most of these TV boxes use HDMI level 1.4 Some older TV's at 1.2 may not work.
I for sure would try another TV before sending it back.

My TV has the physical HDMI port damaged so in my setup I'm using my TV VGA port and a HDMI to VGA converter cable (from CableMatters) and it works flawlessly up to 1080p. If your TV does not support HDMI 1.4 but it has VGA input it may be an option to use the HDMI to VGA adapter, it’s not expensive at all.

Thank you again for all the responses.

It would seem that finless is right with the tv being 1.2.

After cerm78s suggestion to try using a converter I had a dig in my cupboard and found a hdmi to dvi connector and a dvi to VGA, so I joined them together and tried running it as hdmi to VGA. My tv screen stayed black, but at least it was picking up a signal.

I then took the hdmi to VGA part off and then tried it on my PC monitor (older than tv), the hdmi to dvi was successfull on the monitor. So I now know that the hdmi output was fine on the box and it was more of a tv issue.

I also added a scart adaptor to the a/v lead and that worked with an analogue quality picture on my toshiba 42xv555d tv. It's strange the side 3 colour a/v input did not work.

It looks like I will not be returning the box after all and I can at least upload the relevant apps that my father will need and hopefully this will work on his tv without any problems.

I will probably go ahead with finless's 1.4 and the xbmc apk if that is correct. I did not flash anything as I had tried the above methods first. I also have noticed that the build that come with the box is 101k4 (I thought it was 100k4 as standard) android 4.2 and kernel 3.10.33.

I cannot thank you guys enough for your help.
you have made me and very soon my father, happy people.

Hi All, sorry to burst the bubble but i still think your box is faulty.

i have just received my S89 also and i seem to be suffering from the same issue. The AV works fine but HDMI does not. I have tried multiple TVs, monitors and HDMI cables but no display.
i noticed someone said HDMI 1.4 is not compatible with 1.2 but according to HDMI.org that is not the case.
                              Q. Are all of the new HDMI versions backward compatible with previous versions?
Yes, all HDMI versions are fully backward compatible with all previous versions.
Lucky I bought mine from geekbuying i have already sent an email to customer support.

Will let you know how i go.
