Got it working
The Power part at least for sure. I put the connector block into a cable to help guide the guts back into position. You do need to make sure that the ends dnt pop too far out the front, if they do the wire may need to be bent a bit to get it back into place. With the end of the wire just barely popping out the end, the top of it should just be visible over the top of the black part of the connector block inside. If they dont then you will likely not get a good connection.
As you are looking at the pins of the recepticle head on with the wide part to the top they are numbered 1 to 5 from left to right. Pin 1 is the +5V, pin 2 is data -, pin 3 is data +, pin 4 is connected to pin 5, pin 5 is ground. So the outermost pins are the important ones for charging. When I did my nephews last night I didn't get the innards in quite the right place before I resoldered it in place, but I was able to gently bend it up so it would make contact to the mini-usb cable using a very small flat tip jewelers screwdriver.
I did take a few pictures through a microscope that showed the old solder points on the board has air bubbles and was very dull looking which is consistent with a bad solder joint if I am remembering correctly my time way back when when I was working more in the manufacturing side of electronics.
A couple tips if anyone else needs to do this would be be sure the connector looks correctly put together before you try to solder it. Be sure to use extra flux, and then clean it off good later. A fine tip soldering iron will allow more control when attaching the connectors. Again make sure the connector block looks put together correctly before you solder. When putting the guts back into the connector, if you look real close at the edge of the solder end of it, you can probably see one side is slightly duller than the other, this will be the board solder side. When inserted right it will have the small amount of the wire over the connector (I know I mentioned it above, but thought it could use repeating)

Okay so I'm new to this. Never tried to work on electronics before, but my sons polaroid tablet has the same problem. I was able to disassemble it. Where the 5 pins connect to the board is that just white tape over them? Is it okay to lift it up? And it looks like a little bit of solder in one spot where one of the pins was, how do I remove it safely? Oh and where can I get another 5 pin connector. I have an old phone that has the same style port will that work? Thanks for any help.

Same problem...need wiring schematic!
I have the same problem with the power connection. Does anyone know where there might be a schematic for the wiring of the power connector? The wires are gone (given to me this way for repair). I do have some tiny wire, but not sure what goes where. I know I don't need to fill all the slots on the power adapter that connects to the mb....just need to know what wires go where and I can get it back together! Ugh! Don't mind the work, just need a wiring diagram and / or mb schematic! Any helpful links out there guys? Thanks! Did a search here on the forums but nothing popped up. Thank you!

If I remember rght the only tape I have seen in there has ben yellow, though there is always the possibility that they had changed. You will need a fairly fine soldering iron to solder the pins back on without causing bridges between them, I would also recomend having some extra flux on hand, it will help keep the molten solder from bridging the gaps. As for a second connector, it is possible that the one from the phone would work, though no guarantees. Just depends on if the solder pads line up with the pins. To remove the old one I reccoment the exact opposite of what I just said for putting it on, in this case flood the area on the donor PCB with extra solder and use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently pull up on the connector while all of the pins are wet, then after it is loose, use the soldering iron to clean up the pins and reshape with the needle nose before trying to install in the tablet.

Luckily for you, since the problem that you are wondering about is the USB connector, all you really need is to know the pinout for that. It is a mini-USB plug so the pinouts are 1-VCC, 2-D-, 3-D+, 4-special, 5-GND. So the 2 most important pins for power are the outer 2.

technically any piece of wire can make the connection, but the one thing about the ones that were inside the connector before is that they are very stiff to maintain their shape after lots of insertions of the connector, where standard copper wire would not. you could try perusing local thrift stores to see if they have an old device with a plug that might work. Another option could be ****, a quick perusal found this option, you can look for others. I would recomend getting the measurements and comparing to the one you are considering if you can, but overall the outside dimensions should be fairly close I would think. One thing is it did look like some of the pads had come up. If you cant get enough solder on them to make a solid connection and hold the new connector in place you might want to put in a small amount of epoxy on each side of the connector to lock it in place better. Also if you are trying to get the data connections in the middle and are having a hard time bridging the gap, a couple strands of thin copper wire can help bridge the gap.

PS one place you might check to see if you have a Fry's electronics store near you, they have all sorts of goodies for the electronics hobbiest, and quite possibly replacement connectors.

Great advice! After seeing the black zig zag wires your statemennt makes perfect sense. I had originally planned on replacing those with just thin copper wire, so may proceed with that plan. The easy and best route would be to just replace the MB but they cost nearly as much as an entire tablet. Junk technology when the solder won't hold. Someone should tell them their machine soldering system is broken or needs adjustments! This problem is ALL over the net. Exact same problem. I do have an email out with pix to a electronic site that carries the mini usb connector replacement parts, just need to make sure I have the correct pinout and size. It's a 5 wire usb with 5 locations for attachment to the MB (but I am not absolutely certain about #5). Need to re-check my photo for evidence of wire disconnect or breakage. Your help is SO appreciated! Maybe I can get through all of this after all! Great idea on the epoxy btw!

It has been awhile but if I remember right you remove the four screws on the side and then insert some kind of plastic pry tool on the face side and work it around until the back shell popps off. you can use a metal screwdriver but that will mar the finish. i find a plastic knife can work if you file a better edge on it.
