    (Newbie) Semi-bricked MK808B Sunvel V2

    Hi guys,
been browsing for a while and this week received box from China.

I've tried numerous different flash packages but not a single one will boot.

Opened that box, has Mediatek circuits (=Sunvel V2?)
Tried to install Finless 1.7 for clone, seems smooth but after flash has been written, download file failed (on start to check download data-phase) EDIT: Managed to pull this process through with no errors - but still no boot. When I changed Loader to RK30xxLoader(L)_V2.09 everything with Flash tool goes nicely but it just won't boot up when hooking it to TV.

Another "funny" thing is that when I try to enter flash mode with paperclip, blue led is always on - some posts tells me that it should go off or never be lit...

Have to admit that I was too fast with first flash attempt and tried to flash lewy's rom for original MK808B

Any ideas? Just wanted to find out if there's easy way out compared to FinlesBob's unbrick-method

    TIA!

What OS are you using to flash?

Make sure you are holding the button down --- there's a noticeable bump feeling when it's been correctly pushed down. It should be held down while being connected to the computer.

I think in finless' readme, it's mentioned to try a different USB port. Yes, this has actually solved a similar problem for me in the past.

lewy's ROM had a weird bug for me where wifi would become completely unstable after some time. I wasn't the only person to notice this problem.

You *might* be able to use a new ROM and then flash a mediatek wifi kernel separately.

I think there are some links of mediatek wifi ROMs shared in the clone thread. If not, maybe vondroid has it (though registration is required to download files there).

If the ROM you download is in .img format:
The Finless ROM package should include this folder: "alternate_reboot_to_flash_tool". Open that folder, and right-click RKBatchTool.exe and select Run as administrator.

The [...] button next to FW Path section is the button to press to load the .img file. I believe "Restore" is the flash button.

edit: oh yes, I just remembered --- Finless ROM with 720p kernel has a bug where it tries to output 1080p even if your TV doesn't support 1080p. If you have a 720p or 1080i TV, you can't see anything unless you first hook the device up to a 1080p TV and change output to 720p in Android Settings.

      Hola Bueno,
Managed to pull out firmware from VonDroid. At least stick now boots - to screen where there is two penguins on top-left corner

Seems that my chain for flashing is OK (cable, port, right way of pushing flash-button).

I use iPads power for stick, at least with factory settings it worked when I opened package

EDIT: TV is 1080p (Samsung 60" plasma)

The last time there was a thread about the two penguins, it was about flashing Finless ROM to an R-Box branded device, but I always thought those had a different wifi chip. Do you remember seeing an R-Box logo when you first turned it on before flashing?

I think some devices require a specific boot.img, which might not be present in the ROM you flashed. Or it could just be a bad flash. I would try a different ROM. Check the clones thread and see if you can find someone who has identical hardware and hopefully they shared a backup of the ROM for it.

          Ahoy,
managed to find help from clone thread as you suggested: downloaded 3 different RAR's and flashed with tool from Finless package. Now it's working again as a stock stick.

Yes, there is R-BOX logo during boot-up.

Thanks for your help, at least now I know how to revive my stick after romtests

Awesome. Yea, the r-box devices are picky about ROM compatibility. One of the last few pages of the clones thread has some useful info and files posted by someone from Ukraine --- I think they managed to get an overclocked kernel working for r-box devices, and shared it... Though theirs used the AP WiFi chip, not mediatek (I thought?) So hopefully WiFi works for you...

OK, brief wrap-up for ppl working with R-BOX/Mediatek chip 808b clone.

              Not working:
              - Cxy_rk30_mk808b_130710
              - MK802-IIIS W2COMP custom rom
              - Finless 1.7 for clones
              - Zero Devices MTK B2 2013/11/06
              - SunVel I808_mk808 (via VonDroid)
              - T005_T011_public_root
              - Imito mx1/2 Finless 1.7a (some sources pointed that this would work)

ATM Stock 4.2.2 only one which boots. http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post160051

                Hello,

I've asked the something in another post before I found this thread! I've a similar problem and would really appreciate some help guys!!!! There was a R-BOX logo during boot-up before I flashed it!

I think I have the exact same model that you have and also a big problem between my hands!
It's the first time I see a device that looks like mine (I leave here some fotos). I forgot either to back up the original ROM as well as to check the MK808B model that I received and flashed it with the Filness 2.1 ROM. After that, I still wasn't able to have my device working again, I always get a black image on tv with no signal! The device was working just fine before flashing it and I've already tried several ROM (only with one of them I got the 2 penguins and anything else). So, right know my main concern is to get at least the original ROM and make it work again, so I was wondering if someone here is able to help me!!??
