THL T11 Review

I have checked for a mediatek phone for a while.
T11 seems to be a good choice, There are some others like the cubot x6, the t100s or the w200s, all around 200 Euro.
I ask myself, why always only Jellybean firmware.
Does someone know, if mediatek will support kitkat for the octa core devices?

There are some kitkat based devices though jellybean seems most common. My guess is that the SDK provided by mediatek was jellybean.

MTK only start to release KK based devices with the new MTK 83xx. But the 'old' ones, in some cases, will be updated.
Mine is one of them, mtk6589, sometimes it's better to buy from some reliable vendor. I have a BQ.

I personally chose T11 because I consider 1080p screen being a waste of CPU and battery power, I wanted 2 gigs of RAM and for its COOL looks. In the end I was hesitating between T11 and Kingzone K1, but the cheaper T11 won.

As far as I know MediaTek hasn't released sources for its chipsets yet, therefore smartphone manufacturers cannot make 4.4 firmware. However, there has been a rumor going around since April, that Mediatek should release 4.4 sources in the next couple of months. I'm not really well informed about these matters, so if anyone knows something more, please correct me / add some info.

Thanks for all statements.
Honestly I'm not sure about buying something based on MediaTek hardware. Closed sources and weak support could be difficult to improve something or fix issues.
I have still the xperia Z as alternative on my list with full support and fine hardware. Of course not so fast as the octa cores. For a phone I need no trouble with a device lost under construction.
I have to consider all points. Need more time, I don't want to stuck on JB with a new device.
Since I have on my old galaxy ace 2 CM11, I don't want back to JB.

I'm considering buying this phone and I don't want any unpleasant surprises.
I bought a Lenovo P780 a couple of months ago and the earpiece is defective (the volume comes and goes as it pleases - sometimes it's very very low and I can't hear the other person while he can hear me perfectly fine). The solution to this problem is either using Loudspeaker or headphones.
Other than this the phone is very good and without any other flaws

Have you come across any problem with this phone?

My main concerns are:

1. Overheating (after playing intensive games or apps for an hour or 2)
2. Signal strength
3. Call volume/quality/clarity on both ends of a call (speaker and receiver)
4. Sudden battery discharges

Can't help with 1 I'm afraid. 2, 3 and 4 all OK. I do experience the occasional reboot though never while I've been using it. In very happy with mine.

BTW would you recommend any other phone over the THL T11 at the moment? Or is this the best value for the money at the moment?
I'm thinking about buying it on aliexpress for 207$...

Do you know if there's any other phone that's going to be released over the next few months that might be worth waiting for?

Yes. That's another (_supposedly*) really good phone that I have heard of lately. But, still I don't want to jump the gun and buy it from the beginning in case there's any deal-breaking problem with it...

_{*since it isn't on sale yet and hasn't been tested by the masses for any possible problems...}

I'm probably going to go with the THL T11. I'm going to order it at the end of this month. I'll wait and see if I run across something that might be better for the same price ~210$; so feel free to give me any other suggestions

Just a question out of pure curiosity:
When might that be?

Since I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff: What is the difference between the "kitkat firmware" that you mentioned and the "kitkat roms" that are out for MTK phones? (I have a P780 that has a kitkat rom)

I will probably consider the T5000 that you mentioned earlier but only if it becomes available in the next 2-3 weeks...

Kitkat has a better memory management and I use phones for more than 2 years. Until then Jellybean will be a Dino and some apps would maybe not supported anymore.
Some mtk 8cores seem to have kitkat. But I don't trust the support for Chinese phones. On the other hand these phones based on mtk seem to be very similar. The chances are not bad for a kitkat.
