Adding kernel splash

Hey all,

Has anyone noticed that the new acemax firmwares for the m8 units have not got a kernel splash? I have been trying to add this in with no success. I have tried adding the initlogo (720+1080) to the boot.img, also tied editing the init.rc and build.pro neither worked.

if anyone could shed some light on this, would be much appreciated.

These new S802 devices do not use initlogo.rle
Same with KK on Rockchip and if you actually add one, it can screw up booting

Thanks for getting back to me. Nevermind, I thought I was missing something. I must of been pretty lucky, I've even been swooping bootloaders trying to get it to work.

FYI there are 3 images on boot possible.

A kernel image that is compiled IN THE KERNEL ITSELF! Only hacking with a hexeditor can change it (or if you have sources).

A boot.img RLE image. No ROM on KK uses this even if it shows up in the ramdisk of boot.img! I have tried to make it work myself but it only boot loops!

AML Logo. This is totally another image that Rockchip does not use. It's a AML thing and always has been.

Boot Animation. This is the bootanimation Usually it is in /system/media

Boot Video. Right now this is there but is not being used properly. I have used it and now know how to do some cool things when I get the time.

I've changed my boot animation and the very first splash inside the logo.img.
Didnt know about the video part tho, sounds very cool. I've got a rom here for the m8 square unit that has a kernel splash (.rle) which is changeable. Would you like to have a look, not to worry if its not anything useful to you.

how do you open/repack the logo.img from amlogic?
i was able to extract the bmp with an hex editor, changed it and added the header again, is that the way you go here?
