    Framerate problems!!

I'm experiencing some strange problems with my Measy M8 (Tronsmart Vega Ultra/Beelink M8 clone).

    1080p 25fps mkv/mp4's plays absolutely flawlessly.
    23.97fps 1080p mp4's have a slight judder.
    23.97fps 480p AVI's are utterly unwatchable.

Does anyone have any advice what could be causing the problem? I've tried the box with a Samsung LED Smart TV with all motion control off, I've also tried it through an LG LCD TV with Trumotion switched off.

I'm tested it with the 100k4, the 101k4 and the 102k4 firmwares - exactly the same. However XBMC is now in sync! I've tried both a 1.1 and 1.4 HDMI cable and tried each and every compatible resolution!!

    Please help!

In XBMC check the option at (something like this):
    Video->Playback->Adjust display framerate to video

I've got that set to 'always' and also tried the 'stop/start' option. I'm still getting smooth for 2 secs, then a judder, the smooth, then judder.

I get the same with the Android gallery player, MX player and XBMC. I just can't understand why.

Graphically intense games are no problem at all.

While playing the movie, check the actual resolution and frame rate using your tv 'info' button...
Maybe your tv doesn't support 24 fps mode.

I also remember reading around that some of these devices don't support 1080p 24fps mode (yet).

This is for the Vega S89:
        • [*=left]What are the actual resolutions that this device can support?
          • [*=left]HDMI: 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p50, 720p60, 1080i50, 1080p50, 1080i60, 1080p60, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p30, 2160pSMPTE (1080p24 is not in stock rom, but is supported in kernel)
            [*=left]VGA CVBS: 480i, 576i

Thanks for offering you help pyn, both of my TV's run 24fps real cinema without any problems from bluray players etc.

Okay. I've tested playing lots of different video files with each of the video players and the TV is stuck on 1080p 60hz. It never changes. This probably explains why I'm having all sorts of framerate issues. I can't work out why the output signal is fixed to this and doesn't change depending on the source file...

It's because of the missing frame rates at the kernel at the moment (e.g. 1080p/24)...
It's a todo for the next time...

Does that mean that everyone haschoppy playback? I thought it was just me...

So is 640p @ 23.97fps also not currently natively supported?

                Which version do you use?

                Try an actual version (http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/android/arm/)

                or nightly (http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/android/arm/)...

                Maybe this helps
                - go system/settings/video
                - change your Setting level to Expert, (its at the bottom)
                - now look for acceleration and disable all HW accel's but (libstagefright)
                - Reboot XBMC

                    @no_spam_for_me.

I've just installed Oman's version of Xbmc and changed the settings as you've described.

Things have definitely improved, it's smoother. I'm still getting however, the odd judder, kind of like a very slight 'slow down' of frames. But it's not nearly as bad.

When I hit 'info' on my TV, it still shows a fixed resolution and refresh rate of 1080p 60hz.

Have the same problem. Gotham beta 2 or oman version NOT smooth playback when amcodec is enabled. This is a major bug, is anyone else noticing? When amcodec is unticked everything is smooth again. But that defeats the whole point of amlogic hardware implementation in these boxes isn't it?

Waiting for a fix for amcodec urgently!...

I think this will only be fixed once they add support for the "major" framerates (mainly 23.97/24fps for movies!).

I just don't get it why they have support for 2048p24fps and not 1024p24fps when 95% of the users will be using 1024p

Well, who's they? If it's a kernel problem then can't Bob do anything about it in the next version, now that the SDK is available? Or do we have to wait for amlogic?

Also you mean 1280p (not 1024p!)...

But why is that libstagefright can produce smooth results with any kind of input movie refresh and amcodec can't? Is latest XBMC using libstagefright somehow bypasses the kernel's limitations???

Yes! But actually I meant 1080p

For the Vega S89 I think kernel support is already done. So I'm not sure what's missing...

                              2 mistakes in a row! It's 1080p@24

I'm wondering are we they only ones we're seeing unsmooth playback in these devices? Everyone else seems to be happy
