Before you begin please download and familiarize yourself with re-flashing the factory firmware with livesuite so you can restore your device to factory state if any thing goes wrong. (i'll update with link later)

CM9 & AOKP compatibility boot image for Polaroid PMID702c ONLY that will allow you to run Christian Troy's Allwinner A10 CM9 http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/3337...cm9-nightlies/ and AOKP http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/34824-rom-aokp/

this is only a modified factory boot.img that allows you to run both CM9 and AOKP, this is still using the factory kernel at this time.

download all the files in the above link and save to your devices external sdcard "/mnt/extsd"

download either the CM9 nightly or AOKP nightly from links above for Christian Troy's Allwinner A10 CM9 - AOKP.

extract "pmid702c-recovery.zip" to the root of the internal sdcard "/sdcard"
from terminal emulator run:

#cd /sdcard
#sh install-recovery.sh

after completed run to reboot into recovery (recovery can be accessed by holding the menu key down and holding power button down release when polaroid logo shows up)

#sh reboot-recovery.sh

recovery navigation is:
vol-up highlight up, vol-down highlight down, power button selects,

or through touch
swipe up and down to highlight
swipe to the right over highlighted to select or press select button at bottom of screen.
swipe left to go back

BACK-UP YOUR DEVICE TO EXTERNAL SDCARD BEFORE YOU BEGIN

follow this order for flashing ROM to device,

(1st wipe device so our install is clean)
select install zip from sdcard
select choose zip from external sdcard
select ROM_WIPER.zip
select Yes - Install ROM_WIPER.zip

(2nd install CM9 / AOKP base)
select choose zip from external sdcard
select "highlight your downloaded CM9 / AOKP ROM"
select Yes - Install

(3rd install PMID702c_CM9-AOKP_BOOT-07092012.zip)
select choose zip from external sdcard
select PMID702c_CM9-AOKP_BOOT-07092012.zip
select Yes - Install

(4th install su binary)select choose zip from external sdcard
select su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
select Yes - Install

(5h install gapps)
select choose zip from external sdcard
select GAPPS-ICS-07092012.zip
select Yes - Install

(6th install FORMAT_INTERNAL_SDCARD.zip)
select choose zip from external sdcard
select FORMAT_INTERNAL_SDCARD.zip
select Yes - Install

(7th Factory Reset)
select Go Back until you get to 1st Recovery Screen
select wipe data/factory reset
select Yes - delete all user data

(8th Reboot)
select reboot system now

(9th Wait)
1st boot takes a minute be patient let it sit and do its thing i personally recommend at this point you take a 15 minute break grab a cold one and relax and let the device build its cache and settle down. you will need to change the background image as it doesn't draw correctly the first time.

Are you also going to post instructions on how to install it? I've gotten CWM working on my PMID702c but I wasn't really able to do anything with it.

So I tried both CM9 and AOKP and really liked both better than stock, unfortunately I can't get the wifi to connect if its adhoc, same issues I had before with website rom available from polaroid. It says saved but will never connect. This happened with both CM9 and AOKP.

On the bright side I am trying to create my own custom rom, but its proven to be difficult. I really want to test this bad boy with Gingerbread.

Lost root

I installed CM9 on my 7XC but now I don't have root access. I tried running the RootMe.bat file as a part of the LiquidLimex market fix but I get a message that says "adbd is already running as root". I've gone into the root settings for CM and verified that is root is enabled for Apps and ADB. I still can't run anything requiring root access.

Any idea on how to get root back?

So I've been trying to get the scripts to run in the terminal emulator for about an hour and a half. I feel a bit like I'm smashing my face against a brick wall thousands of times, expecting something different to happen each time. I've used the commands listed in the OP, manually executed the scripts through Root Explorer, manually copied the recovery img into /system, and every time I try to boot into recovery I see the Android bot's soulless eyes staring through me as it's robo-intestines glow red with it's little upside-down-triangle-alert-sign.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? If the above isn't clear enough, I'm unable to get the recovery image to boot.

Been there and done that. Then I realized I had to unplug the USB cable going to my computer. While it was plugged in, the files on the internal and ext storage are not visible.

I still can't figure out how to get root after installing either of the roms.

Gah, if you or anyone else has any more advice, it would be appreciated, but not required. Do I have to run this through the android sdk? I've failed multiple times to get that to work, too.

Didn't have any links off of it's home page that I saw as yet, but there is info here on building CyanogenMod for A10 devices. Also other info on the main page for the A10 and A13 as well, including the datasheets for both.

UPDATE

Sorry so long to get back to you all here, been busy redoing my build system Ubuntu 12.04 seems to have issues building the allwinner kernel.

All of you that are having root issues, there is a issue in my edify updater script that is not creating the proper, symbolic links for the SU binary, to fix this install the latest SU binary that i added to the download list from recovery and you'll have full root control again, sorry about that everyone.

as for Ad-Hoc from what I've been reading and been told from others in the Allwinner community the issue is with the factory wifi module and some other kernel level stuff that has to be changed, so Ad-Hoc wont be an option until after i finish building and debugging a kernel for the A13SOC.

Finally found the solution to my issue, thanks everyone!

So I found out why I had so many issues getting the install-recovery.sh and reboot-recovery.sh scripts to work correctly - A while back, I had been messing with the Linux Installer app from the Market, and through the process, I goof'd and somehow messed up my terminal.

Long story short, the "su" commands weren't working as intended. I got the recovery working, then checked back here to find the CM root problem solved.

Could someone please clarify? The OP says for 702c only, yet CincyDad reports flashing CM9 on the 7XC. Do the files from the OP work on the 7XC, which has the Allwinner 13? I have the 7XC. I did check at my local BigLots, but they don't seem to have any Polaroid tabs at all. They now have the Next tablet, which others have said isn't as good.) Thanks for any light anyone can shed.
