Bricked 0312 Nextbook 7s (resistive)

After I tried flashing a custom ROM on this device (YF0312) Windows now just shows it as an "unknown device" and no amount of updating or uninstalling drivers in "flash" mode seems to do anything.

To be fair, the ROM wasn't necessarily designed or tested for this device, but it supposedly worked with other devices in the family.

Whatever I did, I suspect the last flash really borked things on the tablet side.

So the moral of the story is: If the ROM isn't tested on a YF0312 device, and you aren't really experienced in these things, you can brick your device. Hopefully I'll save someone a trip to Big Lots to return his/her tablet.

If it is a RK29 tablet you cannot brick it. You should be able to always get it into flash mode.
I do not know what the YF0312 version is though.

That would be the version I sent to you to create the custom ROM for the 7s resistive you made for us.

AG4VR can download both the stock ROM and yours from FreakTab to restore his tablet. For his information, installing the needed ADB driver is part of the process.

1st i must say Finless Is a tablet GOD! Most the time talking so far above me I have no idea what he is exactly saying. K.I.S.S. for us less knowledgeable. I think your gonna have to dumb it down for me before I think about tackling a rom install or what ever in order to get google play. But I've been getting along without them. Now onto what I was planning on writing about. The model ans all specs I could think of to add for you so you might be able to tell what we have since mine is also a 0312. I bought it at BIGLOTS on sale for $89.00. I've now bought 3 of them.

I do not know if any of this information helps but then until I know exactly the steps to take and the correct um roms ,I guess, I do not think I'll brick one because I don't think I'm brave enough to try to tweak one in this fashion. Would I like Google Play on mine or the gf's sure but because of nextbook confusion I just can't feel safe enough nor confident to do so. How many 7's are there anyway if I'm reading right at least 4 or 5. It just makes me feel even dumber than normal.

I believe it was an RK29 tablet, because the drivers did work for the first few flashes I did. After the last flash, Windows recognized there was a device connected over USB, but instead of the usual hardware ID that would be reported with an RK29 tablet (which should be reported even if drivers were not installed), Windows reported the hardware ID as USB\UNKNOWN.

That is when I came to the conclusion that the tablet was bricked, whether it was something in the hardware or something I did.

I did flash your ROM once and was very impressed with your work. I was unable to get the tablet into a state that would allow me to reflash it after flashing a non-working ROM, however.

I've returned the tablet since I couldn't seem to do any more with it. Thanks anyway for your help.

No offense but this is all user error. Once the driver is installed and you were able to flash a ROM once...... You can always flash again! You will never need to mess with drivers again.... Seems man do though for some reason. You cannot brick one of these tabs! So your issue was just getting it back into flash mode. Again no offense but user error...

Say Finless I watched your vid on um 'google play patch'. It seemed really easy from what you showed even a fool like me should be able to do this without bricking it. What i'm wondering and why I'm writing this time is in the vid you said something about.....hang on I've gotta watch you again........1.4 patch i think. now last night while looking around i downloaded both 'gplay patch' the one from the vid plus I downloaded 'nextbook7psr root gplay' what i'm wondering is there a vid for this root or a vid on what to do if we brick it? If there is could you add me a link to this thread? I know your a busy man so if any one else wants to jump on in feel free. I know the other moderators are just as brilliant and know where this information may be if it exsist. Thanks in advance to whom ever fields this.

HELP HELP HEEEELLLLPPP!!!

OK... so I decided to allow my hubby, who is as techy as a box of rocks, to install this rom on my Nextbook 7s. Well, let's just say that for the past hour, I've been staring at a black screen. I seriously do not know what he did wrong as he completed all of the steps as said in the "read me". I sat here while he did so.
Is my tablet bricked? Can it be fixed? Please say yes b/c I'm about ready to kill him and call the police and funeral director myself.
Attached is the screen he received when he got to the flashing. What did this fool do wrong???

I'm not a very techy person, so this is way above my head, but is there anything that can be done to save my tablet? Thanks in advance.

-Either the parameter file got deleted( maybe even the entire image folder).
-Or RKAndroidTool was moved out of its original folder and put on the Desktop (You should always keep The files your rom comes with in the same folder you unzipped it in).


So here's exactly what you must do.
1.Re-download the rom applicable to your nextbook (refer to the little paper sticker located on the back to figure out what rom to download because other images might not work correctly)
2.when It finishes downloading unzip the entire zip file to the desktop or where appropriate.
3.Open the folder that was just created. (Usually named similar to the zip file)
4.Plug the power supply into the tablet (Chances are battery is low/out by the time your reading this. Also its safer to let your battery have 60% battery charge before flashing a rom so you might want to let it sit on the charger for an hour if your unsure of the current charge).
5.Connect your Tablet to the computer.
6.Double click to open the RKAndroidTool.exe in the folder you just opened.
7.Put your tablet into Flash Mode (I don't have the 7s so refer to the read-me file located in the same folder as RKAndroidTools.exe)
8.RKAndroidTool.exe Should Display Found RKAndroid Loader Rock Usb at the bottom of the window if you've correctly triggered Flash Mode
9.Click ErasesIDB Just to be safe.
10.Select ALL OPTIONS BUT BACKUP on the left hand side.
11.Click Run and wait.
12.After 3-5 minutes your tablet should boot.
13.Wait for the notifications to stop.
14.Turn off the tablet.
15. Then 30 seconds later turn the tablet back on

Enjoy. Your tablet should now be reset to factory except the added ability of root and etc.

Hello I have succesfully rooted my Nextbook 7s using Finless's 1.2 rom. My unit is a YF0312 also. I just got it at Big Lots last week for 89.95. You must read and carefully follow his instructions included with the .img file.
Am I right in beleiving that 0312 is just a manufacture date? Google play works but I next need to fool it into thinking I have more compatible device i.e a samsung phone or other. Some programs will say "not compatible with this device". I saw a thread here on how to do this, just havent tried it yet!
