Mizuu as an alternative to XBMC

Just incase you didn't know, Mizuu is a great alternative to XBMC if you don't require any streaming addons and the like.

I recently switched and I must say it is far more snappy and straightforward to use than XBMC.
You will have to use MX Player to play the actual videos but I don't see a problem with this at all. MX Player definitely plays video far more smoothly than XBMC does on my X7 (Quickshot V2 with Beyond XBMC). MX Player is very stealthy and you don't feel like you are using 2 different apps, it feels like an integrated experience.

It is capable of reading directly from SMB/Upnp shares without having to mount these yourself.

Also, the library is far less strict when it comes to the location and naming of files than XBMC, files that were not recognized by XBMC (as they were not in the correct folder structure etc) were immediately recognized in Mizuu.

I am in no way affiliated with the app but just thought I'd share my experience.

    Check it out here http://mizuu.tv/
It is now free but they strangely still seem to be charging for it in the Play store. Make sure to download it directly from their website so you don't have to pay.

      I agree, but Mizuu...

      - It a lot faster and responsive than XBMC !!!! (Huge improvment with Gotham indeed...)
      - Index for Shows TV is more pratical than XBMC... index is by name file, not bye folder name.
      - you can choose your player with 1 click.. MX, BSplayer, ..., Even XBMC lol
      - UI is beautifull! and so user friendly!
      - Easy to use for kids

... So, i love this app. Best media app for me

      Try it guys

          Hi!

          Developer of Mizuu here.

It's not really that strange. If you want automatic updates and better support, buy the version on Google Play. If not, feel free to download it from the website. Just don't expect a whole lot

Sure. Have fun using something that's not designed for mobile usage :-)

I paid for it. It works great but it has no ability to use addons/plugins. But then that was never supposed to be or proposed to be a part of it. It's a good app for your local movie database, which was, I thought, what it's supposed to do. I just outgrew it. It is a very fine app.

Comparing it to XBMC, AFAIC, is like compairing apples to androids, oops, to oranges.
                FLHT = Harley
HEMI = 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT
                Cause I've been asked.

I just want to say thanks for a great app! I think I will buy it now to support!
It is so easy to use, even for my parents!
XBMC is great and offers very advanced features but if you want something that just works Mizuu is my choice!

As a feature request, would it be possible to one day have a widget for recently added movies / recently added TV shows?

                  Thanks again

                    Thank you!

Yep, I'm planning on doing a widget re-write to add configuration options when you place a widget on your home screen. Hopefully I'll get it wrapped up for a version 3.0 release, so within a few months.

Nice!!! Also, Chromecast support would be awesome!! There is no chromecast app for local media playing that integrates all the Movie/TV data at present. There definitely is a niche here.

Bought this app on jan/2012 (think it was first released around beginning 2012?) and never used it. Now with the Minix X7 I finally can use and enjoy Mizuu - and it's great!

Work very well with air mouse... Mizuu has ability to build media library from dlna, xbmc doesn't. I use both of them, for real big size movie I use Mizuu with MxPlayerPro. Also since xbmc can't use MXPlayerpro for smb as external player I use Mizuu.
T428 ,Radxa Rock (RR), cs918s v1.0, waiting for my X7...
