    playing spot the difference

    Hi,

    I'm looking to see what the differences are between kernels #406 and #407.

    After getting over the mental gymnastics and conceptual pain of needing to reverse engineer a GNU GPL linux kernel, and being relatively new to Android, this is what I've got so far. No success with nm or objdump, perhaps differences in `cat /proc/kallsyms` from within a booted kernel might give some clues, or will those be identical?

    Code:
    # !oi! MD5SUM ALWAYS!
    $ md5sum kernel40?.img
    6249a3895b8b8c5c6504fc9372f7d8e8  kernel406.img
    f5c6ea20cd9990eebfe79cb351972c5e  kernel407.img

    $ strings kernel406.img > kstr.406
    $ strings kernel407.img > kstr.407

    $ diff -u kstr.406 kstr.407
    #basically...
    -#406 SMP PREEMPT Tue Apr 15 12:23:42 CST 2014
    +#407 SMP PREEMPT Sun May 4 11:18:12 CST 2014

    $ hexdump -C kernel406.img > k406c.hex
    $ hexdump -C kernel407.img > k407c.hex

    $ diff k406c.hex k407c.hex | wc -l
    1604

    # Hey, good, that's not so many differences

    $ diff -u k406c.hex k407c.hex | less
    ... leads to so interesting results, some areas of difference mentioning drr freq, regulator voltage, and such. (optimistically clutching at straws here, but perhaps some work to do with fixing spontaneous reboots due to low-voltage situations?)

    any clues from the overclocking crowd as to how to identify what parts of the binary blob relate to which compiled-in modules?

    Thinking to my next device, any advice on hardware manufacturers who will actually honor the software license without needing to get lawyers involved first?

    No you can't. You need to use the rom flash tool included in RileyRom

    1st of all my post was about "NOT HAVING AN OPTION TO TURN LOCATION OFF COMPLETELY" and you are continuosly posting about changing it to device and wifi and so forth
    2ndly even you got the device only and wifi mode mixed up in ur post.

    so please stop posting reply to my post so that Riley or someone knowledgable can shed sme light on my question.

    thank you
    Try swiping down the menu from the right hand side and turning location off using the bottom left hand button marked location. There is no user manual and others are simply trying to help you, so quit the attitude!

    Setting it to device only will set it to GPS. There is no option to turn off location completely.

    Location bug in Rom 3.0 and 3.1

    Hi riley,
    Im new to the forum but have been using your awsome roms since beginning.

    I clean flashed version 3.0 - found that once i turned off location, it became grey and could not be turned on again

    I clean flashed 3.1 then - this time i can change the location setting (device only, high accuracy etc) but there is no button to turn the location off completely

    I was wondering if its only me or anyone else has the same problem?

    thnx!
